Has anyone ever had any issues at the MSP barracks?

I took a vacation day today to get some things done.

I wanted to finish up my FL CCW license, and apply for my MD collectors license.

I got the applications, filled them out, went and had them notorized, had the passport photos done.

I just needed fingerprinted for the FL license and and to have the md application filled out by the MD state police.

I have a local MSP barracks by my home, so I figured I would go down and get them to fill out the application and see how much for them to do the finger prints. I have a friend who is a local LEO, so he could do them for me at no charge, but while I was there if it wasn't much I could just get it done.

So, I walk in and up to the counter, the officer behind the desk says "You need to come back on Wed"

Me: Ok, are you closed today?

    Officer: No

Me: Ok, I will come back then. Is there another location that I can go to today since I took the day off to take care of this.

Office: Not sure, fingerprints are done on wed.

Me: Ok, Can I take care of something other than fingerprints today.

    Officer: What?

Me: I have an application for a firearms collector.

Officer: No, you have to have your finger prints done first.

Me: I don't believe the application requires me to have fingerprints, since its just the state of MD application and not the C&R.

Officer: You need to go online to get an application.

Me: I already have the application, and is notorized, I just need to bring it to the MSP to be completed.

Officer: We don't do that, you need fingerprints and then have to mail into the federal goverment.

Me: The C&R is a federal license, this one is just the state of MD, and it says to be filled out by MSP.

Officer: I don't know what that is.

Me: Is there anyone we can call to find out?

    Officer: I guess.

The officer calls someone, and is told to take my application and turn it in to someone else, and I would receive a letter if approved.

Me: Ok, thanks for your help.

I was very surprised at how disrespectful this guy was, and not willing to help. Before my military days, I spent alot of time at the barracks due to I was a member of the explorers and wanted to become a MSP officer.

I was always treated very well, and in a respectful manner.

I'm a Marine, so I'm not expecting someone to be all buddy buddy, but at least be respectful and helpful.

    Is this a normal experience?

How DARE you question the behavior of your overlord masters you worthless serf.

Shut the **** up, go to work and pay your taxes or else.

Its not unusual but to be fair most of the MSP I've met/interacted with were pretty good and not unreasonable.....you probably got someone having a bad hair day....no excuse but....

Each barrack has a specialist/volunteer (often a retiree) come in to do fingerprints one day a week. That day can be found online on the barrack homepage.

The Designated Collector form requires no local barrack involvement. It is mailed directly to the Firearms Unit.

md collectors.. you have to mail that to msp @ pikesville office. you dont need msp to fill out anything on that form except the msp fills out portion when approved at pikesville (i think thats the right one).

When I was applying for my VA CCW permit I checked out the schedule for the MSP to do fingerprints. The barracks that do it generally do it for a couple of hours one day a week in the middle of the day. Depending on where you live, The Baltimore County Police will do it all day on Saturday at the public service building in Towson for $5.00.

I just had my designated collectors application notarized this morning and was thinking about dropping it offer at the Pikesville office since I live around the corner. If they're that grumpy, maybe I'll just mail it in.

A few of my friends in who have their all took the app to the local office, and I was advised to do the same by my guy who does my transfers.

As long as it gets taken care of, I don't care who it goes to.

I just didn't appreciate the officers unwillingness to help in a respectful manner.

Just a FYI, our local detention center does fingerprinting for free on sat's from 8-12.

Cops are people too. Maybe his dog pissed on his leg this AM. Who knows, no excuse, but you'd be amazed at the dumb questions some people ask. It tends to sour you if you let it.
Most cops with any time on aren't all warm/fuzzy/smiley.
A long time ago I heard it said that most cops think everyone is a !@#$%^ until proven otherwise. I think there's some truth in that.

If you were an Explorer you know how it goes around police stations. There's always somebody having a bad day in every workplace. And for some people, every day at work is a bad day to them. I wouldn't let it color my view of the whole agency.

Met 2SAM22 today and funny we had this same conversation.

THe "Desk" is a busy place...answering phones, listening to the radio, taking care of stuff in the lobby and then answering to the Desk Sgt. Its very unappreciated task so he was probably short b/c he had a bazzilion things to do and on his mind. Don't take it personally.I get people like that when I go to the Royal Farms or Target.

Since the Annapolis site shut down, all my dealings with MSP (fingerprinting for out-of-state permits) have been at the Jessup Waterloo barrack. None have been pleasant vis-a-vis the trooper behind the glass window; surly, curt and with a "why the hell are you bothering me" attitude. I've met people like that in various stores as well. The difference is they haven't pledged to protect and serve.

When a citizen asks for guidance, it's reasonable to assume (s)he is entitled to a civil response. Having a bad day is the officer's problem, not mine.

I disagree....they are pledged to serve otherwise your business and $$ will go elsewhere.

I've been to Jessup SEVERAL (4-5) times meeting other MDS members. The only problem I had was a day I went up there when they were doing fingerprints and they made me wait 30 mins but they were polite about it.

Each time I went up there they were cordial. I was polite from the start and didn't have a problem. THey had no idea who I was until I completed the paperwork and gave them my ID. I guess your experiences at Waterloo are different from mine.

I was at MSP Glen Burnie today...the Sgt was very polite to me. Again, she didn't know I was a police officer until I completed the paperwork and gave them my ID.

Maybe I'm just a nice guy and I get treated well because I treat others respectfully :D I've done over 20 transfers at MSP at 3 barracks and I've never had a shitty trooper. I'm not going to apologize for them because I get good service even before I give them my ID, seems the common denominator is you :D.

Wow, a little quick on the trigger there, officer. I didn't expect or seek an apology from you.

You're experience at Jessup was positive; mine negative. That doesn't mean I was rude and you weren't.

Having spent most of my seventy years around the military I have a pretty good sense when someone in authority is full of himself. My wife confirmed my suspicion during the last visit. As we left the facility she remarked, "Boy, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed."

You like the Jessup crew. I liked Annapolis better. No harm, no foul.

I had a great experience when I went to get my prints done at GB, everyone was friendly. I guess the guys felt comfortable around me because we were all talking trash about Owe'Malley back in the print room. Nothing terrible just about how poorly he handles the budget and how low on the totem pole he puts the MSP when it comes to funding.

But they do have a set way of doing things so you have to fit yourself into their schedule as stated. Mine does prints two days a week at specific times.
