    serious question

Can't be done. The county would have to be absorbed into a county as a municipal entity like Aberdeen, or Silver Springs. Unfortunately, a county outside of a state would be a state. There is no way the U.S. will allow a county to succeed from it's state and then enter statehood. If there ever will be a 51st state, it will likely be Puerto Rico, which has commonwealth status. - I have a B.A. in Political Science and a Masters in Government Policy.

No government will happily give up a tax base/power. The only chance of secession would be to convince the vast majority of American that anarchy is the best system and there is a fat chance of that happening any time soon.

not what i'm asking. Is there a procedure to "kick out" a county?

Do you mean like force a county out of a state? Can't be done without the State's approval and another state willing to absorb it. There is some history where based on state boundaries land goes from one state to another when a river has a major change in its course of flow. I think this happened once with states that bordered the Mississippi river.

So, what I'm hearing is, we could give Baltimore City and P.G. County away to D.C. if we redirect the Potomac?

As long as the northern part of bowie can be annexed to AA county, I'm okay with this lol.

Paying over $400 a month in property taxes every month on a $215k house is no fun...

What about the precedence of some southern cities that never formally rejoined the union until WWII? They were officially and formally outside the Union for 80 years.

Is this going to turn into a "Grab yer Guns Boys weza go'in ta War" thread?

Be very careful what you wish for. We are living in rocky times and this country can only go in one direction from here.

It can go Left or it can go Right.

There is no more room for middle ground. 2014 and 2016 will be pivotal election years and the Right must be ready for the fight that's coming.

Sorry, the District of Columbia's boarders are based on measurements and not the contours of a river.

    Juuuuust over the line
Better idea: grant statehood to D.C., then Maryland cedes Montgomery & Prince George counties. D.C gets what they want and we loose a significant burden and maybe even become the Free State once again!

    Sgt Preston here...

In MerryLand, It's more likely that the National Guard would be called in & the County Legislators arrested for "Going off of the Reservation" & for Treason...

but remember part of DC was given back to VA so slaves could still be sold , measurements can be changed :D

False. The Supreme Court ruled that secession from the union was illegal and invalid. No state actually seceded, or has the right to secede from the union

Can't remember the case name, but I recall reading about it.
