Anyone know if the hql has to be surrendered upon leaving the state? I'm moving to VA in a couple weeks and was wondering if it's like a DL and has to be turned in. Looked on MSPs website but no info. Can't access MDS from work so posting on my phone.

I'd keep it for a reminder of the communist gun-grabbing ninnies in this state.
And as a show & tell to those in VA that say it can't happen there.

Its only necessary if you plan to purchase a handgun in MD in the next 10 years. Who knows, you may choose to return :)

Nah , you don't own the card. The $ you paid was an application fee, would still cost you the same if you were turned down.

Keep it to show people in America that it really happened. We would doubt you would volentarily return , but who knows what the pressures of family or job may do in the coming 10yrs.

hmmm...I should be able to use my HQL as an ID at a bar in MD... you need to be 21 to buy a handgun... it'd be too easy to fake without running the number though... I mean a 9 year old could fake one...

You can show it off to your Virginia friends to show them that you're qualified in MD.

Then, they can laugh and show you a copy of the Constitution to show you that they're qualified in VA.

Plan D? Not worth the hassle.
Do not destroy it. Do not turn it in.

If you have used it in MD then I suggest it must be retained until at least the SOL expires on any transactions.

I am not a lawyer... but that's what I would do.

Its not legal advice either ;)

Reasonable advice. Couldn't find anything on the web about turning one in. Didn't spend a lot of time but also didn't see how to renew or cost. But then again I guess they have 8 1/2 years now to dream something up!
