My FL, UT, and VA NR permits all took about about 7 weeks.

So MD has them beat.

I hope its <30 days for all permits going forward. That would be quite an amazing step forward.

In my class today the instructor thought those who have an HQL would process faster on the admin side. Maybe there is something to that, but a sample of 1 doesn't hold much weight

I believe this may be true. I know of several people that submitted their app at the same time or before me. Their applications have been accepted, mine has not. Only difference I can find is they have HQLs and I dont. My app is still stuck it the "submitted" status

They called my employer and asked to speak to the owner about me. I told them "That guys is so terrible that I cant fire him"

As of now(7/18), no NICS # yet.

Sounds cool that it could be within 2 weeks away if your turnaround is any indication.
