I would remove the handguard and take 3/8" off the end of it with a chop saw and appropriate blade. (Right to the tip of the flip up sight touching the rail)
Touch up the end with some Aluma Black and a Q-Tip and nobody will be any wiser.

I think with my skills it’s probably better and safer to buy a shorter hg .

I cut a couple of aluminum handguards with a fine toothed hack saw and they came out good. I dressed the ends with a file and painted them with a flat black paint and they will pass from 3 feet.

A better thread title might get you more information. Good luck.

Put it this way: an extra inch of handguard isn't worth the trouble it's causing you. Get something you know will work.

How about using a belt sander? Hard to screw that up.

Also, how are you planning to mount your supressor? Handguard looks too long for direct thread, but I think some mounting systems may put the supressor more forward of the barrel threads.

Well after everyone’s insight I came across the aero and Midwest suppressor handguards. Both are about 12.5ish” but have a 1.75ish diameter so they are made for suppressors. I was honestly hoping this hg would have just been 12” so I would have had it flush mounted to the rail.

Something like the Silencerco ASR mount would probably clear that handguard.

Using a thread extender like this would get you another 3/4". They're made for just this scenario.
