You have been misinformed.Keep in mind a lot of people are applauding Texas for standing up to SCOTUS, and if Hawaii does the same thing…….
That is not what TX is doing.
What HI is doing is not "the same thing."

Was it in a pit with banana leaves and an apple in his mouth?Interesting.
The history of Hawaii, in part, starts out with armed Hawaiians fighting James Cook and his crew of sailors. That was some Aloha in the end Cook got cooked.
I seriously doubt the Hawaiians had any prohibition on weapons prior to Cook; or that there is anything documented about it.
I may stand corrected.
Before you know it, people will be putting ham and pineapple on pizza! Is there no decency?!Dogs and Cats living together.
Mass hysteria!
The history is murky on that. Likely an imu but maybe not.Was it in a pit with banana leaves and an apple in his mouth?
SCOTUS will love this tidbit:
Long ago, the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court announced that an “opinion of the
United States Supreme Court . . . is merely another source of
authority, admittedly to be afforded respectful consideration,
but which we are free to accept or reject in establishing the
outer limits of protection afforded by . . . the Hawaiʻi
Constitution.”
True ! But what they just said doesn't mean what they thought they said .
Indeed , States aren't bound by the * Outer * Limits set by SCOTUS, or the Constitution. They most certainly can use their State Constitution to confir even MORE Freedoms than SCOTUS minimums .
But they can't violate the * inner * limits set by SCOTUS of floor level of Rights nationwide.
