I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I haven't given the subject enough thought.
I need to do a little research and go over the "what if's" with the family.
We live in a really rural area and have only had once or twice where something sounded off at night.
Several night lights (with battery backup) on both floors, so I would just try to be quiet and tell Mrs. Kman to hold the revolver while I check on the kids. One way upstairs, so keep the landing in sight and check out the first floor and locks. Tell her everything is OK and come back upstairs.

I think I would rather do it that way than to announce my presence and a gun, but I don't know now.

Any suggestions or resources would be welcomed.

That's why I love having dogs. They make great alarms. Should someone actually make it in the house I will not be advertising what I have or where I'm located.

Love the tangents. But the point was about mindset and confronting someone inside your home and if your ready to get into it.

I am ready to defend my family even if it means the loss of an assailant's life as well as the loss of my freedom which is highly likely in this state.
In the past I did not arm myself for every bump in the night but 5 years ago after an attempted break in while home, I changed my thinking from "what's that?" to "Where's the gun?" and how do I properly use it.

If someone who does not live in my home is in my residence uninvited there will be no talk, racking slides, or warnings. They will be shot till they are not a threat to my loved ones.

Whatever gun they have, mine is better. I can promise my abilities with a gun are better too.

Sure they might get a lucky shot and end me, but that wont make me hesitate to take action.

Call it tough guy talk or whatever. Its how I will handle my business.

Just so I'm 100% clear, what does the law say about shooting an unarmed person who is illegally in your home? Honestly I'm not so sure I'm going to scan him 100% to see if he does, or does not, have a weapon. I may start shooting center mass as soon as I determine I do not recognize the person.
To me a complete stranger in my home is a threat whether he has a weapon or not. Also I'd say that in most people's homes, if you can see the guy, he's close enough to rush you and get your gun. Probably another reason that barricade is better than confrontation.

Our house is off the road quite a bit so no one would come back there without intent to harm or steal. Since our LEO are few, by the time they get there it's done (one way or the other). We have always maintained that we are on our own to deal with the problem. Both of us have had training (weapons/room clearing/etc). We also have the mind set that we want to come out alive either in the home threat or on the street. Chris

The law wont save me or my loved ones. I don't care what the Law says. Im taking my safety into my own hands.

I don't think he asked about YOUR home, but anyone in any home in the the state in general. We know you don't follow the rules of law. Especially when it comes to your family and religion and everything else. Because God and the Lord Jesus Christ scripts the rule of law that you follow. The past couple months anyway.

So back to my question, what does the law say regarding what is deemed a threat inside the home?

Doesn't God whisper in your ear and tell you what's right?

Sometimes Him and sometimes my wife. :)

I'll say this, if I find someone standing in my kitchen eating my Old Bay Cheese Curls they'll be praying to God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost that I stop shooting. :gun7:

Seriously the idea of someone breaking in while we're home is horrible.
Me shooting them even more horrible.
Me not shooting them and my family being harmed, the most horrible of all.

I've experienced the first and am willing to live with the second. The third is unthinkable.
