I have to admit, after a decade in the US Navy, I thought Maryland would be a nice place to settle. For the last two decades I have lived here, married, and now have a family with four kids, two dogs, and a cat.
Maryland has a great natural beauty, the bay and the mountains. I have made great friends, I am a member of a great church, I volunteer with scouts and coach sports. I have a good job. Sounds good?
Maryland is dominated by big government democrats. In my view, there is no chance of anything but big government in the next 20 years. I only see more regulation and taxes on the horizon. Every year they raise our taxes, this year they now will tax rain. To legally own a gun you will be fingerprinted and treated like a felon. Certain guns are banned. The chances of legally carrying is zero.
My family is now leaving Maryland for Texas. This is a painful move, just the logistics of it. Beyond that, saying goodbye to 20 years worth of friends...it is not easy. Maryland will lose a group of law abiding citizens that pay their taxes and give to their community. I guess they dont want our kind, responsible, self reliant.
My family will endure this emotionally expensive move, because we know our future is brighter in Texas than in Maryland. We will dedicate ourselves to become self reliant Texans. We will proudly fly the Texas flag over our new home.
It is not surprising that most of the people I know agree with moving out of Maryland, and express their desire to do the same. I am sure we will not be the last to flee.
Goodbye friends, good luck, and maybe we will see each other in Texas.

I am Jealous. I am looking around at property in WV but I am looking at another year or 2 before I can move out of the state. Have to get the debt in place including the cost of buying the new place before we can move since I can keep my job but my wife wont be able to do that commute. I was tiring to get myself to join the Dino movement but then I found out I was redistricted into a Republican District so I don't have to change party's Yea! I will do what I can until I move but I am working at moving out of this hell hole.

    Thanks
    Robert

Take OweMalley out of the equation and the gov't and Md is a wonderful place to live. Plenty to do, central location, change of seasons, the bay, ocean city, eastern shore, "country" out the western side. I love it. But.......

    Well Said.

To OP: I wish you and your family the best.. Just keep up the fight, because it's coming your way.

Best of luck on your move to freer pastures.

I'd like to suggest that as a parting shot, you send a short email to OweMalware outlining not just the gun issue, but ever-increasing taxes, the elimination of the death penalty, tuition for illegals and ever-decreasing individual freedoms in this state as the reasons you are leaving and taking your spending dollars and tax money with you.

Granted, given the arrogance and indifference of OweMalware and his dutiful lemmings in the MD Senate and House of Delegates, the likely reaction from whoever reads the email will be "good riddance", but I know I will feel a little bit better for having done it when I leave.

As an afterthought, I am running into more and more diehard democrats who are openly critcizing what is going on in Annapolis (not on guns, unfortunately). Anyone else running into this with their liberal acquaintances?

Moved to Plano, TX once. And I don't know and am still scratching my head why in the hell I moved back to Maryland. All your reasons are definitely valid in terms of what is going on with this state. I am still convincing my wife to move back again to Texas- Land of Free...

To the OP, good luck, and I hope you like TX.

I definitely understand your desire to leave.

I am trying desperately to get a job in VA or Montgomery County (commuting distance from NOVA) for next school year (I am a teacher). I would love to move to VA next year. Unfortunately, while where I currently work is an acceptable commute to and from Alexandria, there is no way I could afford to live there on what I'm paid (there are a few VA districts, plus Mont County, that pay enough with my experience and education level to live there). While I may renew my current lease one more year, I plan to be there in no more than a year or so, and hopefully next year. The only catch is with how school districts hire (very last minute) I probably won't know if I have a new job for next year until after my lease expires, hence the possibility I may stay another year.

Unlike you, I was born here. I do love most things about MD. Being a small state that still has quite a bit of geographic diversity, you can live anywhere in the state and still be a short drive from the Bay, the mountains or the ocean (and I take advantage of the diversity: yesterday I enjoyed a few beers and dinner with friends overlooking the South River near Annapolis, tomorrow I have a date where we're riding our motorcycles to Harpers Ferry). There is history all over the place, great entertainment, and plenty of cultural attractions. Of course, since I've been here my whole life, I also have tons of friends and I have family here, including aging parents. Yet, with all the reasons to stay, I can't stand the politics and gun climate here, and I don't see it changing any time soon (I am middle aged and don't have the patience to stay until I'm too old to enjoy potential future changes).

The one possible kink in my plan, especially if I wait another year, is I'm actively dating. I seem to keep dating women who own their homes, and if something works out with a woman who has a house, it may make moving out of state and staying there a bit tougher (I'm trying to meet more women who live in VA, but of course, I mostly meet women who live relatively close to me).

    Good luck and best wishes.

Texas would not be my first, second or third choice - I would think that employment opportunity for you played a part, in addition to MD politics and cost of living.

Been to texas - depends on where in texas: many highways and areas are crowded (isn't most everywhere), hot ass weather all the time with allot of hot head asses. Everything in Texas is bigger including ego's.

    If I where to pick where would I go - I don't know:maybe South Carolina - KY

In the retard/democrat apocalypse, Texas will be the last bastion of freedom.

Close but not quite there. Try taking a gun from the hands of an Alaskan whose very life depends on his capability with it.

To the OP: best wishes for a smooth transition.

    To the OP-

Good luck to you and your family in your new home. Keep up the fight there, many of us might be joining you someday.

I worry about Texas too, to be honest. The state could have a watershed moment with immigration, especially if Congress succeeds in creating millions more democratvoters there with amnesty.

Yep, I hope people are getting as fired up about this amnesty bill as they did about guns or health care or other big issues. The magnitude of this bill can not be understated. It could literally turn Texas blue within a generation. And if Texas goes, that's about all she wrote for the country as we knew it. Expect MD, CA, and NJ laws nationwide....

Not to worry the dollar will collapse and all hell will break loose. The snap to the right is what we will need to fear then :)

Good luck OP! Me and my family are not far behind you. We finally have a contract on our house here and have to be out by August 14th.

I have been in Maryland for 24 years and have a great job making 6 figures. I am giving all that up with no job prospect at the moment to get the hell out of here. Our home on the water of 18 years is a home we can never hope to replace or have anything like it again in our lifetime, but I'll live hand to mouth if it means living free away from this socialist enclave of a State. Yeah, I have a lot of bitterness tward the government of this State.

West Virginia and farming, here I come.

I made the move to San Antonio two years ago and haven't regretted a thing, although I do miss family and friends. It's hard to explain, but it just "feels different" living here.

Best of luck on your move.

Congratulations and thank you for helping to set the example.

PS. for the .gov workers. People "bash" because the .gov is a pig at the trough. You are part of the pig. The silo defense makes you feel better.
