What would make you think Md would be a good place to settle down? I grew up in this area this place sucks compared to other states! I'm sure others would move if they could find employment, I definitely would then Owe Mao Li would realize the consequences of knee jerk legislature I think he already has. If missing your friends is an issue why not move to Va? I'm starting to have my doubts about whether his gun ban will stand up in court, but better to be safe than sorry hell we don't know what screwed up sanctions he might impose next.

I am kind of in the same boat as OP. I'm not from MD originally, but have lived here for 33 years, married, raised a family, and retired from a long career in the Federal Govt. My wife and I will be headed for Arizona in the next few years.

Take OweMalley out of the equation and the gov't and Md is a wonderful place to live. Plenty to do, central location, change of seasons, the bay, ocean city, eastern shore, "country" out the western side. I love it. But.......

Best wishes and prayers to you and your family, Maryland will miss you. At least you can stay in contact with your mds friends as well as other friends via the internet. Good luck and God Blees Texas!

Best of luck to you in your new adventure. Drink a Lone Star for me.

I've been in MD for 16 years and have another few to go before I can retire. But I've already begun prepping for the move. No, I have not given up on fighting for our rights here in MD, but like many other posters, I long to return to a freer state, in my case my birth state of TN (just outside Nashville). No income tax, Vanderbilt offers some of the best medical services in the country, and best of all, no BS gun control legislation. TN is one of the states fighting tooth and nail POTUS, Reid, Pelosi, Hoyer and other gun control advocates at the federal level. If I had deep roots in MD I might reconsider. In the meantime, I'll continue to support MSI, MDS, NRA, and local FFLs and ranges to do my part. But I fear the long term prognosis for MD is not good, and I just won't live long enough to make it worthwhile to stay. Sorry if this sounds defeatist, but I think it is the reality this blue state faces. :sad20:

The Governor of Texas is now courting not only gun companies but other industries to move to Texas from liberal states like NY. Even running TV ads.

It makes me wonder how long Texas will be a free state.

You mean before it becomes a free country?

I don't blame you for leaving but you could've moved just next door to VA/WV/PA and probably have better gun laws than Texas, and still been close enough to not leave family and friends behind. What was it about Texas that made you make that huge leap?

Virginia and pa will follow md. It may not be for a few decades, but it will happen.

Texas will physically rebel against this country before it follows md/northeastern politics. In the retard/democrat apocalypse, Texas will be the last bastion of freedom.

To OP... Good luck and God bless. Fair wind and following seas.

To the fella dissing government employees... Tsk, tsk. Assumptions and generalizations are wrong more often than not and are bad karma magnets.

Texas may indeed be the last bastion as it is indeed a Republic. Don't forget a couple other places that hold freedom and independence in very high esteem. On the other hand, theirs is a great and deep seated disdain for gubmint rules and overnight of any kind...New Hampshire, all of Appalacia and most of Louisiana. Northern Idaho has got its share of what I'll generously call patriots too.

Moving sends a message...but only to those capable of listening.

    .
Advance apologies to the OP, but this needs to be said...

Generalizations are dangerous. They should generally be avoided.

The inclusion of "government workers" in your comment is the sort of generalization that anti-2A-ers use to paint ALL gun owners & 2A advocates as terrorists, mass-murderers & redneck idiots. I am a "government worker" in the DoD, & I guarantee you that you are dead wrong about me, & 99.9% of the rest of my colleagues. One quick example: you see military amputees in the news & think they're making courageous progress & that they're heroes. I couldn't agree more. But who do you think works with them to get them there? Me & lots of other "government workers." Here's the website for the Rehabilitation & Human Performance Scientific Domain that I lead within the DoD: www.tatrc.org/prosthetics.

Be careful out there people, those generalizations can bite back.

In general ;) , the closer you are working with vets the better involved the employees are.

We all have different government employee experiences. For you it may be 99.9% for other organizations/people I know the involvement is closer to 85%.
There's plenty of deadweight around that leads to the negative generalizations.
Sorry if your organization/employees takes the heat for other people's lack of accountability.
My relative in the VA system works damn hard while other feds I know are the epitome of 'milking the system'.
Unfortunate but true inside and outside of government work.

    OP:
    wishing you a smooth transition

I'm right behind you, but I'm looking at something a little closer - WV perhaps. love Virginia, but it's only 10-20yrs behind MD. PA has the same problem MD has (the votes of a few metro areas cancelling out everyone else in the state).

I worry about Texas too, to be honest. The state could have a watershed moment with immigration, especially if Congress succeeds in creating millions more democratvoters there with amnesty.

I understand people have different experiences, but slamming "government workers" is a poor practice no matter what, and not the way to make friends especially since there are so many of us in the area, AND on MDShooters.
