No, the legislature changed the gun laws, in ways that he can do nothing to stop. But he can do things like influence the way the executive branch actually conducts things within his reach. He can do things like shape the HPRB in a way that continues to eat away at the prevailing direction the permit topic used to go (care to guess what that board would look like under the socialist who says you shouldn't even be allowed to own a shotgun?). The governor has lots to do with things that intersect your life in Maryland, and in every single case (including guns), he's been better than a Democrat would have been and WAY better than what the socialist is promising to be.

It's Maryland. It's mostly liberals, voting for liberals. YOU CANNOT HAVE WHAT YOU WANT, but you can have much worse than what we have now. Railing against the guy who isn't perfect, so that the guy who is promising to act, aggressively, against your interests gets more political support - that's really what you want?

But I want Ted Nugent to be MD Gov! :tantrum:

Occam, I've enjoyed your posts and believe we are on the same side. I think I'm tapping out of this thread. I come to MDS for enjoyment and education, not :banghead: (I can get that from just about any other source on the internet), and I'm pretty sure no minds are going to change here:deadhorse:.

I'm going to pull two statements out from the below ...

So is Hogan also suggesting that he would support background checks for face-to-face long gun sales and transfers in Maryland (meaning no longer face-to-face, but through an FFL)? Why's he using the term "common sense"? Is this the result of his people working with MDA or a similar group?

Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

In my mind, a nationwide, universal background check system means NO guns of ANY kind can be sold without going through a metric sh!t ton of nationally linked computer systems.

Wanna sell Granpappy's 1923 side by side shotgun? First bend over and submit to one Congressman Peter King's national security is paramount anal probes.

Who was the idiot that floated the idea about a national firearms identification card?

    That's not true.

The Good Doctor with the Great Hair has written many posts in such a way as to convince me to cast my vote, most grudgingly, for Hogan.

I'll stand by my belief that Ben Jealous has ZERO chance of winning a statewide election, but I ain'ts takin' no chances.

You're just sayin' that to make me feel better :rasp:

Even if that's the case, thank you.:o

 And we can't take any chances. I'm sure a lot of Hillary supporters thought Trump had ZERO chance...

I held my nose and voted for Trump, so voting for Hogan, rather than Jealous, is a no brainer... I urge everyone to do the same, as there in no logical reason not to...

Hoping I am wrong, it seems as though some think I am promoting jealous, not the case as I have said this in several posts in several threads. Not defending myself, just FYI for those who may have missed this.
    Thanks For the explanation Occam.

? Did I hear that had hogan vetoed bills (1302) this session there would no chance to override his veto?
Something to do with different house / senate members being voted in?? If correct Hogan had the ball. ICBWrong.

I'm voting for Hogan because I think he is about as conservative as is electable in Maryland. He has done about as good a job is possible within reason given reelection was a priority for him. I would probably not support him if I thought a more pro 2A candidate was an overall better choice for Governor, or that a protest third party vote would be productive in some way. If he runs for another office, I would almost certainly not support him.

That said, I am voting with my feet. I am a few weeks into a new job in Virginia, and we are readying to move either to VA or to WV in the next 6-12 months.

Yeah that really put a bad taste in my mouth. I can understand folk not wanting to vote for him after that.

This is all delaying the inevitable. Eventually Hogan will be gone, if not next year, then 5 years from now. Then what? Its just a matter of time before a democrat that makes a Jealous (what a name) or a Frosh/OMalley look like a moderate. The FINAL chance gun owners have in the blue states is a Trump-stacked Supreme Court beating the States into submission. We must have Federal preemption and it must be applied, not just talked about.

The alternative is exactly the same...Hogan vetoes a bill passed by the MGA...his veto is overridden and becomes law. OR

The MGA passes a bill Jealous signs it it becomes law...

how hard is this to understand..

    THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. .

Hogan hasn't stated that he is going to raise your taxes by 50% so that you can pay more for others health care.

Saying that if we shun Hogan we will teach the MD GOP a lesson....that we want a more conservative candidate is naive at best.

A more conservative candidate can’t win here.

So then there is no point in fighting for gun rights? That issue is too far right for anyone to run on then?

The chance of an override did not weigh on Hogan's mind. He wanted the bill every bit as much as the rest of the gun grabbers in Annapolis.

Sadly, instead of "Not one more inch!" it is now "OK, take a few inches, just leave me some so you can come back next year for more."

You mean, if Republicans shun Hogan, Maryland's ultra liberal Democrat supermajority won't suddenly all become huge fans of bible thumping, gun toting conservative Christians? They won't suddenly see the wisdom of Alabama's Jeff Sessions, Utah's Mike Lee, and Indiana's Mike Pence, and change parties, and want to elect someone just like them as Maryland's next governor? Aw, come on, Doc, don't burst my delusion. Er, uh, bubble.
