20 years ago, an old guy at the club cussed out my carbine. It's not often you have people you don't really know greet you with a stream of profanity directed at your rifle.

He was on some hell hole in the Pacific and shot a Japanese soldier (my words not his) 7 times and the guy kept coming. He yelled to his buddies to "Throw me a Garand, throw me a Garand" They did. He stopped the enemy soldier who had 2 grenades with his name on them.

Mine is still a blast to shoot. It's a shame they didn't realize at the time a .357 ACP would have been the perfect match.

OBTW - very cool story - thanks for posting. Also eye opening. I thought the whole reason the M1 carbine had a 15 or 30 round mag was to make up for it's lack of knock down power. So much for that.

    You are such a tease.....

Let's see how it goes...for the newbies

Next week the orders come in.

By Wednesday they are posted sold out.

Dbu's start going out end of the week. A dbu does not mean you will get a carbine.

If you get a dbu you must check the estore twice a day to see if your order has posted

One more week until orders start to hit the estore.

Dbus continue to go out. They still do not mean you are getting a carbine.

People are getting charged. Carbines are shipping.

Dbu's still going out. More people getting charged and carbines shipping

People are getting offers to switch from a service grade to rack grade.

You are checking the estore 3 times daily

    No more dbu's

You are checking the e store 4 times a day

CMP announces all carbines shipped. Net time? 2 months....

    You forgot the:

Seeing your order on e-store with serial number listed. :D

    Shipped notice. :D:D

Waiting for the Fed Ex truck. :D:D:D

Opening the box and seeing what you got. :D:D:D:D

First trip to the range! :D:D:D:D:D

If the net time is only 2 months, I will be happy. My Garand was like 3 or 4 months. The only indicator I received was that my credit card was charged.

    You forgot

Having the shipment held at FedEx so you can pick it up.
Discretely opening the box in the parking lot to see what you got.
That shock of anti-climax: "Oh no! It's a dog!"
Smuggling it in the back door while wife is showering.
Steeling yourself for a good look.
"It's not that bad. Not that bad. I can junk that I-cut high-wood/two rivet stovewood and Tapco it out..."

I think all that comes with "Luck Of The Draw". ;)

I was prepared to do all that, but she saw me doing the paperwork and said I'd better get everything I want before the democrats takes office?...
Assured her this was the only thing on my want list (for the time being :innocent0) and there were other more important things...... :D

If I'm selecting a first and second choice (in case the first choice sells out), do I need to complete two separate page 3A's or can I just combine them and let them pick whichever item they fulfill?
    .
That's a good question. My take would be yes fill out separate forms and provide clear instructions that your first choice is a service grade, but if you can't have that, you'd take a field grade if one is available.

As long as you're paying with a CC, payment won't be an issue with the different prices and you have a separate form to authorize either price. You can only buy one, so I don't see how you'd get charged twice?

Thanks for the advice. The Mrs. and I are filling them out now. From this thread, it looks like she and I are late to the party...

You will probably want to consider Priority Mail or a delivery service to get the order there ASAP. The tracking thread on the CMP Forum already has over a hundred orders listed most of which will arrive on Monday. I am certain there are a lot more orders in the works that never bother posting to the tracking thread.

I'm heading to FedEx this afternoon to send this in for delivery tomorrow.

    ^^^^ this

Probably only 1 out of every 20+ orders is represented in the tracking thread. CMP may have a few thousand of these, but there are over 50,000 members in just the Garand Collectors Association.
