It's not a billy club, officer. It's just a piece of rebar I'm studying since I'm thinking of redoing my mom's patio retaining wall.
    Truth.

The reality in CA is that they outlawed billy's, butterfly knives, switchblades, a shit pot of firearms, etc., while the criminals DGAF and run around with Glock switches, etc.

St. Benitez is doing his best to correct this injustice.

Instead of a dedicated billy club...carry a MagLight. "Who they can't blind they can bludgeon."
A Maglite is too heavy for me when I'm walking the dog.

An expandable ASP would be a good option if while walking your dog you get beset by one or two stray dogs, which has happened to me more than once. And those were not nice experiences. And I'm not talking about yapper dogs.

Truth be told IDK if CA LEO's would GAF if you used an illegal billy to defend yourself/your dog from another stray dog. But they may and that exposure is more risk than some want to accept. Plus, the liability if it's an aggressive loose dog that get's his ass beat with an illegal billy.

Lots of names for this. I always heard police refer to it as a "nightstick."

"Truncheon" sounds like what a British Bobby carries instead of a gun.

"Baton" sounds like something teenage girls twirl and throw in the air.

"Blackjack" brings to mind a billy club carried by ruffians.

FWIW, I've seen dogs shrug off an ASP strike to the head and keep coming. I haven't yet seen on shrug off pepper spray.

The ol’ noggin knocker. I’ve ruined about 5 of the 4D or 5D Maglights by using Duracell batteries that leaked and ruined the internals (aboud Duracells like the plague now). Stopped buying them years ago, with today’s LED and new fangled batteries, do they still make/sell Maglights? I’d buy another one if I didn’t have to use alkaline D-cell batteries.

Thank you for the info, I've contemplated pepper spray. It's quite the challenge when you have a GSD on a leash that takes two hands to control, with two similar sized dogs running in aggressively and then splitting L and R to try to attack.

I'll pick up some pepper spray.

I still have a couple of expandable batons from when I was a LEO...much easier to carry than a standard baton. It does take training to use one properly or you can end up losing it and having it jammed where the sun don't shine!

For demonstrations and riots...it's hard to beat the old wood shampoo stick!

I converted my MagLite to LED...easy swap and works great. I don't know whether MagLights are still made...the market has gone to small LED lights that are much easier to carry and use.

My Great-uncle passed away in the early '70s. He was in the Meuse-Argonne and Ypres offensives. Worked for the Penn Rail Road after the war. Was a tough old SOB. Anyway. When my aunt was cleaning up his things she found a item that had a lead weight on one end that was braided about a foot or so and it had a twelve inch loop. She had no clue what it was so she asked me. I said it was a sap or blackjack. She wondered why he would have it. My aunt was a naive woman. I told her it was for knocking bums and hobos off trains. She would not give it to me when I asked if I could have it. Which is a pity. It was a well done piece of work.

Is it weighted at the end? Cool trunchon.

Below is my homemade version. IIRC I used a 2-3oz lead sinker fitted to a threaded rod that was then inserted into a steel spring and covered with electrical tape. I use it for knocking down big Salmon while fishing. ;)

It's about 18" long; G19 for size comparison. Would fit nicely with the Baltimore police confiscation thread.

When I was a kid a took a piece of rubber hose, drilled a hole through near one end for the leather thong to go through, filled it with lead shot and glued tubber stopers in each end, finally I wrapped it in electrical tape. Never had to use it in self defense but it seemed like it would make an impression.

Am I the only one here who leaves a tire thumper in my console? Never know when you’ll need to check your tire pressure…

You have to train with an ASP before using it or it will just get you into trouble.

I liked the Pr-24 side handle but it too took training to use it correctly.

The Pr-24 is my preferred impact weapon, but it's a two-handed weapon when used well.
