I pulled this out of the tread of my back tire yesterday. This looks like a .22 . Could this be something else?

I FEEL LIKE THE CRIMP PORTION AROUND THE BULLET IS TO HIGH UP. IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE TO BE SO CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE BULLET. ID SAY ITS NOT A BULLET, BUT DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS YOU FOUND.

There is a button called caps lock on your keyboard. It appears to be stuck.

Is it possible it's one of those AS 007 Shapeshifter rounds? The ones designed to confound the Fed's ballistics labs---

It seems to be made of aluminum maybe. It's not lead or steal. It didn't make sense that the crimp line ran in that direction either. It's just weird. I was loosing air in my back passenger tire and it looked like a nail or screw head until I pulled it out.

Look at pics of a dissassembled 22LR, the ridges you see up high are not for crimping the case.
If you can squeeze this down with channel locks, its lead, not aluminum

When I looked at it I thought it was some sort of press fit insert. Like a PEM or something

Or a wheel stud with the head and threads ground away. It looks like threads remaining on the end to the left of the splines.

Obviously would not be made of aluminum or other soft metal, though.

    Op, is it magnetic?

Maybe for a smaller wheel, like a utility trailer, garden tractor or mower?
1/4-20 bolts made with splines are common in garage door tracks. It's so you can spin a nut on them without a wrench on the other side, splines bit in to the hole and bolt won't spin.

I've never seen even a garden trailer with studs that tiny

Is it lead or a harder metal. Try scoring it with a knife. If you can't easily do it, it is not lead and not a projectile... it does look too long to be a .22.
It's at least and at most 3% antimony. That is a certainty.

If so, wouldn't it look more 'shroom-like?

There doesn't seem to be any 'shroom-ness there at all.
I, and others found plenty of spent bullets in the parking lot at work that looked perfect except for rifling marks and maybe some road rash.
