So I'm heavily debating on selling my .270 Tikka T3 Lite SS and building an AR for both hunting and range use. I figured with being able to switch the uppers around, this will give me greater versatility.

Anyone using an AR for hunting? If so, what caliber are you using?

I'm thinking about either 6.8 or 300 BLK for hunting, then pick up a 5.56 upper for the range.

Colt just came out with a new AR system. Handles 308. Can take a 556 upper. Looks pretty interesting...pricey though.

Using a 16" Noveske .300 blk for deer this year

    I as well.

6.8 would be the better hunting round since it does have more range to it if the situation calls for it, but in all reality, the ranges I normally take deer at, the cost of 6.8 doesn't justify the added cost of specific bolts/magazines.

Although you could take a page out of browning guy's book, do one in .260 Rem also.

Longest range would probably be 175 yards. Si the 300 Blk probably would fit the bill better.

I'm using 110gr V-max's for most of my loads, even out to 300 yards the drop isn't too bad, using my load data - drop at 175 would be about 3.3 inches and still putting out almost 1000 ft/lbs.
