To encroach on somebody's rights, to take over rights, especially in a minor or gradual way. The analogy of slowly boiling a frog comes to mind. Do 'common sense gun control laws' equate to being nothing more than laws to control The People ? Have any laws proffered by this administration done anything other than control The People (e.g. ObamaCare) ?

Does this sound like how tyranny gains a foothold ?

In 1942, FDR signed E.O. 9066 which put over 110,000 Japanese Americans in internment camps, after they were disarmed. SCOTUS upheld it twice.

Truman tried to sieze U.S. Steel mills with Executive Order 10340 and the Supreme Court knocked it down as him not having the right to do it in the court case, Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer. So it could go either way

California is going to do (annual?) background checks for allowing ammo purchases. NY wants to ban internet sales, or at least flag large purchases.

I wonder what other leaps of logic they'll all try?

When he says "Executive Order", he corrected himself to say "Executive action" that might be possible...

Of course he meant order, and once again tripped over his lips revealing the true nature of the plan.
