I have an FNX-9 and love it. Also the wife has a Baby Eagle or Jericho in .40 and it is nice as well. I'm sure the 9mm is just as nice

Beretta 92fs fits my hand perfectly and I prefer the frame to the polymer frames. It is also very accurate. But like many have stated before you decide go test a few out and then make the decision.

...anyway, the whole point of that is that there are lots of very well-built, reliable and pretty accurate handguns on the market now. You can see in this thread, different people found different handguns to be the solution for them. It's best if you try out a few handguns and see what performs the best in your hands. As a general rule, you'll want to stick to guns with a decent track record of reliability. Taurus isn't it.

    try out these...
    glock: g19/g17
    s&w: M&P9
    Springfield armory: xd9/ xd(m)9
    walther: p99AS/ PPQ
    Ruger: SR9
    CZ: CZ-75
    Sig: 226/ 229
    hk: usp9/ p30
    fn: fnp9/ fns9

the winner is the one that shoots the best. They're all great guns.

I recommend going to a range that rents guns and test driving the 9's they have. "Best" is what he is most comfortable shooting. In 9mm, I personally like the Glock 9 Gen 4.

    Ranges I suggest:
Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, VA
    On Target in Laurel, MD

Yup, so as you can see we have given the OP plenty of options. Now go out and try them! It seems to me that On Target indoor range has a wide variety of rentals. If you go on their website and click on the rentals, it will show all the handguns you can rent in each caliber.

Edit-ah someone beat me to suggesting On Target
