There were plenty of mass injury/killings committed before the 1970's, and 1950's for that matter.

Whitman in 1966 is the first to come to mind, and he had sought out medical/psychiatric help willingly.

That's because most people here have a childish libertarian view of liberty. One that would lead to no society.

If you take the position that we can't lock up dangerous people until after they've done something AND that we can't institute a police state that would restrict access to weapons (all, not just guns) you're saying that the occasional mass shooting, bombing, truck attack, and stabbing is a price you're willing to pay. I, and most Americans, disagree with you.

And prior to the deinstitutionalization, we had no mass killings. That's the factor, not guns, which is why gun control is stupid. We need forced commitment for dangerous people.
