Pretty sure there are other things that were accepted by the military 100+ years ago that have gotten better/changed with time. ;)

One size doesn't have to fit all. Pretty sure .223 didn't exist 100 years ago, so I guess we should be prejudiced against military rifles in that caliber too :innocent0

Who's prejudice? I have no issues with 1911 STYLE pistols in other calibers. But a 1911 was not the name of the design. It was a military designation that identifies a pistol which was used by the US Military for many years and many wars. None of them were 9MM.

The military version of the AR15 was first designated the "M16" should we call all of them M16s?

So what else are you supposed to call a 9mm handgun that looks like a 1911?

Since the OP has disassociated from the thread....

Go to any gunshop and ask about a 1911. Any search for 1911 pistols will yield lots of same pattern pistols. Any firearm parts or accessory supplier has devoted energies to 1911 pistols. Guess what...there are 9mm, 38 Super, 10mm chambered barrels and parts for the 1911. It is understood these are 1911 pattern pistols. They're called ... 1911's. To argue semantics is fruitless.

By the way, production of the 1911 ended circa 1924-25. The 1911-A1 was its successor. The Colt Gov't Model in 45 ACP never was a 1911 since it wasn't built for the military.

Technically, only martial guns are 1911's. There also the civilian built guns referred to as 1911's. Chambered in 45 ACP, 9mm, etc.

So....I guess nobody has actually seen/shot one of these Ruger SR1911 9mm's, huh? Hard to believe every time anyone asks a simple question, it turns into a debate, about everything except what was originally asked... :sad20:

 Yeah...doesn't seem like it's been your thread for a while now...:lol2:

For what it's worth, I have zero experience with a pistol of this type in 9mm.

My Colt says, "1991A1" on the side of it, but I believe it was actually made in 1998 or 1999...so...wtf?!?...I guess I'll just call it,"My Colt" to be safe.

And, most importantly, I make absolutely no discrimination about how my toilet paper hangs. As long as it is off the floor and spins freely, it's all "right" by me.

How's that for not being helpful :D

Please don't be upset. Back on-topic, I will tell you that I used to have a Ruger SR1911 CMD, but it was the steel version chambered in .45 ACP. It was a fine gun but I sold it to purchase a little higher-end 1911 in a different caliber. I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy the SR1911 Lightweight in 9mm.
