How does a 300blk bolt gun compare to a .308 bolt gun?

    No comparison, external ballistic wise.

The big benefit of a bolt gun in 300BLK is for absolute quiet when shooting subs with a suppressor.

A 700SPS in 300BLK with a AAC can, I could actually hear the rounds tearing thru the paper target at 105 yards - it was comically quiet.

Had no ear-pro on for that.

That sounds like an incredible pain in the ass. If a jig would make that any faster it may definitely be a worthy investment.

The jig does make it easier, but I still end up chamfering the case mouth twice - one time to get the expander ball going a bit easier into the case, and a finish chamfer after the final trim.

It's just the nature of the beast with reloading.

    Yeap.

But you can load .308 subsonic rounds (best seems to be Trail Boss powder) and still have available the external ballistics of the .308 with just changing ammo.

    Very true.

I know some people like to do a little suppressor competition to see who's got the most quiet set-up, so that's about the best reason I can think of for a 300BLK bolt gun.

300 Blackout all day long. I reload, so it's a no-brainer. I have a 16" set up for super and a 10" set up for subs; love them both.

Yeah, with the 300 Blackout AAC Handirifle suppressed with an AAC 762SD, the loudest part of shooting it is the hammer dropping.

I have both a hand built .300 blk and 7.62 x 39 rifle. My two cents are "it depends". Ballistically speaking I find the .300 at 130gr more accurate up to 300 yards.

The big difference, however, is penetration. On wood and depth blocks I found that the x39 easily penetrates 1.5 - 2 times that of .300 blk, both using nosler partition game round.

I decided to keep my x39 as a secondary defense gun, CQB format. In a wartime scavenging scenario, finding Russian rounds should be as easy as .223/5.56. And it should be a better cover penetrator. My .300 BLK is a supersonic hunting AR with medium range support options.

The long range AR solution, SASS, is a work in progress. ;-)
