I started to go through the 11 pages on AR15.com but got easily distracted after the thread started to spiral.

Its a VULCAN Rifle. It was not the ammo, it was the gun.

If ANYONE here has one you probably should watch this video.


FYI, this is why EVERYONE should have a BOK/GSW Kit in their Range Bag, Home, AND in their vehicle if they CCW.

I didn't watch the vid - at this point I've seen a few too many things online that I can't unsee (Nick Berg, African potato thieves doused with gasoline and set on fire, a Nissan Armada getting obliterated in a head on collision with a semi, etc) but I'm going to assume that it's bad from the description that the bolt gets embedded in the guy's neck.

Apparently this is not the only Vulcan 50 cal that has blown up, and that it is a common problem. No matter for me though - even if I won the lottery I don't think I'd ever own a 50 cal/BMG rifle - just not my style. I'd have a crap-ton of antique lever actions though.

Agreed. I have seen my share of those. Using a mallet to open the bolt is quite common. Their chambers sucked and the guns were problematic.

I don't see how you could be comfortable shooting a .50 BMG out of something less than reputable. The amount of power in those rounds is staggering.

Have you ever held one? It's the size of a freaking trench knife. If you miss the guy, you can just stab him with an unfired round!
