Hey all, I am a new member here, been lurking on the forum for a few months as I learned Maryland regs on semi-auto guns and finally made an account to learn more as I buy more firearms I am interested in over the next few who knows month or years, I grew up around guns my entire life but never owned a semi-auto, always bought pump or lever actions till last week when PSA had a sale on an AR-15 lower and in fact just picked up my lower today and my Maryland upper just came in the mail today. So now time to be safe but have fun on my range.

You gave yourself away by your familiarity with Pump Action Rifles . While Levers are popular everywhere , Pumps are common with those who live or hunt in PA , they are unusual niche things elsewhere .

I like them , but there are probably as many Rem 760 family in PA , as the rest of the world combined .

Familiarize yourself with the basic operation of your new firearm. Know how to make it safe with a semi auto always remove the magazine/feed source before racking the bolt to release it. On the AR platform you need to press and hold the lower part of the bolt release (looks like a ping pong paddle) while pulling the charging handle rearward to lock the bolt back.

Have fun, be safe, and ask questions if you need. Welcome to the forum.

Thank you, I grew up around the 5 rules of firearm safety so any time I even walked away for water or swap the paper I have unloaded the gun and locked the bolt back. And the barrel is always facing away from anything I do not intend on shooting.
