I have been waiting for almost a year for this. My nephew is a Marine that is back from Afghanistan. While they were over there, they put together a group buy for a Colt 1911 100th Anniversary Edition that has been custom laser etched for their Company. He got me included in the buy and here are the results.

Now my quandry....I can't see myself owning a firearms I don't use, but then again I can't bring myself to shoot it and ruin it's resale value. Outside of giving it to one of you (I am wise to your tricks) what am I to do?

I don't know about you, but that would hold a lot of sentimental value for me. I would shoot the hell out of it, keep it clean and enjoy it. No reason to think about resale value on this one.

We also have sequential serial numbers between his and mine. I guess once I take possession of it, I will have to talk to Chad about making it really nice.

Very nice pistol. The unit mine replaced over there last year did a Kimber group buy, never saw the results though.

This is my Randall Raider. The Randall Firearms Co. made the first "duty ready stainless" 1911s back in the '80s. The Model A211 Raider is their version of the Combat Commander. Click on the thumbnail pics to expand them.

My great grandfather was 5th marines at Belleau Wood and I thought they were the original devil dogs. Regardless, that is a nice 1911. I'd like to have a WW1 era USMC stamped 1911.

Germans gave the Marines fighting at Belleau Woods the original "Devil dog" name because of the ferocity and skills the Marines showed.

I would, too. However, I looked for one and was informed by a WWI and WWII-era 1911 collector that there no such thing - they all say U.S. Army. What you have to do is find the ones that were issued to Marines by serial number. This serial number information is supposedly available somewhere.

The 5th and 6th Marine Regiments both fought at Belleau Wood. Both regiments earned right to wear the French Fourragere, and members of those units still wear it to this day.

That's the story I've heard too although I've also heard that it was US propaganda.

I didn't know there were other units but it makes sense. I really need to bone up on WWI. My father has all my great grandfather's medals and French citations... He was gassed twice and shot once and made it through.

2ndcharter, your greatgrandfather is one tough Marine. I'm in the 6th Marines and very proud of it and to be part of the legacy that men like your greatgrandpa started.
The 5th and 6th Regiments were part of the 4th Marine Brigade, which belonged to the US Army's 2nd Division (commanded by Marine General John A. Lejeune for some time). The 6th Marines use an Indian Head as our logo, which comes from the US Army's 2nd Infantry Division logo/patch (theirs is set in a shield).

I'll post a pic of my 1911 soon to make up for this history lesson!

Here's a picture of my RIA GI and some swag...I have VZ Aliens grips on the pistol but I'm thinking about getting rid of them and getting brown double diamonds for a more old-school look. No mods to the pistol except for an amateur front sight paint job, and I blued the logo (it was stainless). Very satisfied with the gun, 650 rounds through it now. You will see there is a weird blemish in the finish on the front left of the slide. Oh well...it wasn't meant to be looked at it was meant to be used!
