    Savage Model 1919

    Savage Model 1919 (NRA):

Bolt action .22 in a military pattern somewhat like an M1903. These were apparently made to capture the post WWI market of soldiers returning and wanting to get into shooting sports. This particular one is a 6xxx serial number and from 1919-20. The original owner sprung for the extra cost options of "fancy" figured stock and checkering. He apparently replaced the stock peep sight with primitive open sights from a 23A. Sling looks to be original, and is in good shape.

    1919cleaned2.jpg

Bolt action (full scale bolt and throw distance) 5 shot repeater. Today 8 shot magazines are also available. The bolt style is cock-on-close.

    1919boltcleaned.jpg

Patents date to 1917, this early model does not have the "NRA Match Rifle" listing present. Bluing is in good, though not perfect shape.

    1919inscrip.jpg

Chamber and mechanism show some honest wear, but nothing bad. The rifle groups nicely in the tests I've done so far. The mechanism is somewhat picky as to feeding-- it doesn't like certain rounds and doesn't like action-proving dummies. I have a bunch of CCI Standard Velocity here that I will try with it next.

Took me new Savage 93R17 BTVS out for the first time today. Broke in the barrel and sighted in the scope ... definitely more accurate than I am :D

not far, just 50 yrds to sight it in. I already shot everything else that day and did not want to pack everything in my car and go to the 100-300yard pit.
You can see in the bqackground the NRA small bore rifle target sheets. Already at 50 yrds I had a VERY hard time seeing the tiny .17HMR holes. That's when I, after I thought I was sighted in, I stuck on the the Shoot'n'c to do some groupings. Almost impossible to see on the black target already at just 50yrds. Will take her out to 300 next time when I go to Bridgeville.

Looks like you were shooting Hornady ammo? I have the best luck in my Savage 17HMR with CCI 20gr FMJ. Hornady 20gr wasn't bad, 17gr was not consistent.

    100 yds

Yeah I read that about the "lipstick" ammo AFTER I ordered a brick :lol2:, will go through these and then get some other.
