Was a shop yesterday, talking to one of the people working there. His son just had or was taking an HQL class.

Here are some of the things he said the instructor told them in the class:

If you have a DC letter you can "transport handguns and long guns anytime and anywhere you want."

If you get a carry permit (why mentioned in an HQL class, I have no idea), if you see an armed robbery, "Get the robbers attention so they come towards you, then you can shoot them legally."

There were a couple of others, that were just as "interesting."

WATCH who you send people to for training.

It does not seem that this company is an IP here.

Whole lotta stupid there. Can't imagine the instructor has NRA training to make assertions that dumb.

Just because someone has NRA training doesn't make them smart.

I was at the NRA range yesterday and overheard an NRA instructor telling some people in his class some stupid shit. Made me shake my head.

That information is going to get people killed. If this is in fact true, there should be some recourse taken to prevent this person from being an instructor.

    Out them.

That kind of talk by any instructor, NRA or not, is negligent and could get somebody jailed or killed.

+1. I have my HQL and that kind of talk wasn't part of the class. This instructor is the type of dumb a$$ that puts 2A rights in hot water.

Anyone can become an NRA instructor.

NRA Training Counselors are supposed to be the gatekeepers for insuring individuals meet the experience and background standards for an NRA instructor but a some are just money grubbing whores that peddle certifications.

It's not just the NRA, back in the 90s in MD the HQI applicant actually had to submit a qualified target score of 90% with your HQI application packet. You were actual expected to shoot better than your students to be able to certify their permits.

One has to be very, very careful about who they get training from. There's A LOT of low quality stuff out there.

Keep in mind that the OP got this info second hand, third hand for us :D

It could be possible that the guy relaying this to Pinecone was just a know-it-all dipshit.

    Actually he is not.

And nothing was said about an NRA instructor, this was an MD HQL class.

I WOULD out them, except the person was not sure of the company doing the class.

He thought the name was the same as the class.

You'll hear equally dumb things at gun shops, gun shows, and a gun range.

If you think that's odd just think of the two training companies here who will gladly take your money for NRA Outside the Home Protection class but will vote against someone's CCW.
