Back in the day, you would say the Morning Sun or the Evening Sun depending on which of the two daily editions you were talking about. I think when it became a single edition paper, folks started calling it the Sun paper.

The Sunday Sun as well. Over the 186 years that one variation or another of these miserable publications have been in print, it seems likely that "The Sun Paper" became accepted locally as mention of a singular version of the several different and published Sun versions.

How much and why the big secret?
The NRA is in Annapolis every year fighting the MGA antigun attempts. They coordinate with MSI and other groups. They contribute time and money. Could they do more? Hell yes... just like they could do less.

Their support has increased as the number of Marylanders willing to fight for their Rights has increased. We are still behind states like VA in this regard. We need more people to step up and join the fight in Annapolis every year. The more we can bring to the fight, the more outside support we will get.

It may have been mentioned but the dissenting judge referred to sending the case back to the district court to re-analyze under the Bruen precedent. There does seem to be a chance this gets en banced if for nothing more then to do just that and "push around pieces of paper" and waste some time.
I don't see an en banc taking this opinion head on and finding for MD on the merits although the 4th is pretty heavily Dem-appointed and anti gun. J Harvie Wilkinson (Reagan appointee) is no 2A friend either.

funny how feelings take over instead of ruling on the actual constitutionality of something. Like people have said, it appears some amendments in the BoR are less that others.

That has already been done a couple of times.

No need to repeat the delay, the next time the precedent may get more stringent. Which has happened in this case: Caetano and then Bruen.

With all of the 2A cases stacking up at the SCOTUS this session, it will only get harder for the courts to find for the states and/or agencies.

A training corse I once took was taught by a NRA instructor…and he discussed some of these issues. While the NRA is a big organization…its money reserves are not infinite. They also support the gun Rights organizations of all the states and localities…not just one. That takes a lot of people and lawyers…plus those who have to keep up with legislation in every state and locale. No one can do it all. That’s why they offer financial support to state and local groups whose people are closer to the ground.

The NRA also has to pick and choose which court cases to support…some have no chance to succeed for various reasons…so they choose to support those court cases which are based on solid law and properly defended.

No clue how much, and can you name one legal entity that advertises how much they spent on a lawsuit? So not really a big secret, since pretty much every legal firm and their clients do not say how much they spent on a lawsuit.

Are you saying the NRA is the FBI of gun lobby groups? The FBI is long known for bigfooting local agencies...until it goes south and they walk away leaving the mess for the locals to clean up. They all want credit.
NRA-ILA has bootstrapped a bunch of lawsuit, both winners and losers, without saying anything in public.

Not quite. If the State loses en banc (or even if it wins), then the mandate issues 7 days later UNLESS (1) the 4th Circuit stays its mandate pending cert or (2), the SCT stays the mandate pending cert. Such stays are rare as they are granted only if the petitioner for such a stay can show that cert is likely.
    Thanks for the correction Mark.

    The "Short Circuit" summary

Maryland not only requires a license to own a handgun, but also a license to carry one, and also an initial “handgun qualification license” before starting to try to own one. That initial license can take up to 30 days to obtain. Fourth Circuit: In olden times we didn’t have “qualification license” laws like these, so there shouldn’t be one now. Dissent: I don’t see an “infringe” here.

I dont see an infringe here??? :wtf:

Who’s the elitist douchnozzle who spouted that off?

Her Honor the Senior Judge of the US 4th Court of Appeals. In her opinion, if there is even any remote chance of getting thru all the hoops and barriers states can make up to slow or prevent, you are good to go and there is no infringement.

As far as I know, MD does not require a "license" to own a firearm.

It's beyond pitiful that a judge is either so unfamiliar with the laws she is considering, or such a blatant liar that she's willing to knowingly provide false information if her dissenting brief.

So is she stupid, or evil, or perhaps both?

Like most leftists she is most likely incompetent and over her head.

Meh, I generally ignore 13'ers who want to be spoon fed anyway.
Speaking of that 2013 date (unless I missed it), the opinion didn't reference why that law was adopted in the first place. Another missed opportunity to make MD explain why, pre-2013, no such thing was required.

Don't forget the other news paper that used to exist in MD , "News American". Was too moderate or conservative for MD and folded giving The Sun a monopoly on misinformation.

In elementary school we went on a field trip to the Sun Paper. Took a tour and saw all the equipment, etc. The one part of that trip I still remember was touring the newsroom/ office area and we met Bill Burton. Pretty sure he was sitting at his desk smoking a pipe and he said what are you kids doing in school today? You should be out fishing somewhere. I thunk The Sun has gone dwownhill since then.
