If they would allow a fat, ugly, old Jew to strap on a gun and pin on a badge, I'd be in like FlynnStill no one wants these jobs.

The only actual cops you mention are US Park. The other two are highly paid security guards.Base starting is $66,419. That's lower than US Park, US Capitol or USSS UD. They need to really beat the drum that if you REALLY want to be the running, gunning police, they're the only game in town. 25k is chump change when every agency in town is working all the overtime they can fund.
That's the distinction that MPD needs to make. They can't throw a limited time hiring bonus at this and think it's going to work. The only actual cops you mention are US Park. The other two are highly paid security guards.
How much overtime are we talking about here?Base starting is $66,419. That's lower than US Park, US Capitol or USSS UD. I don't claim to know a lot of folks on every agency, but I don't know any cop who can't get all the OT they want right now.How much overtime are we talking about here?
Edit to add --> Found this for MPD: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/03/24/dc-police-hiring-crime/
Other statistics also tell the story: The average response time for top-priority calls is one minute and 40 seconds slower than in 2019. The typical patrol officer is responding to 23 percent more calls than five years ago. To perform tasks deemed mission critical, officers had to work more than 1.1 million overtime hours each of the past three years — the equivalent of about 550 additional officers annually.
How does this compare to other agencies in town?
MoCo is special. The County Council actively hates the PD. They are subjecting them to social justice indoctrination as part of the academy. They are NOT hoping for people who will be good police, they want armed community counselors that they can blame for everything that's wrong with the county.it won’t be long in DC before they start offering double that amount just to get applicants. Montgomery County is having a hard time as well and I hear the candidates they select for the academy would never have even made the initial cut a few years ago.
That's not true for all of the candidates. But it's a fair statement for some of them. I know because I teach them.it won’t be long in DC before they start offering double that amount just to get applicants. Why?Reading this story and comments made me squeal with delight. Thanks everyone.
Damn....That's not true for all of the candidates. But it's a fair statement for some of them. I know because I teach them.
Don't know about th police, I'll let blackstar cover that.Damn....
How bad is this going to get?

Thanks for sharing that. Seems like it's a good time to earn for a splurge purchase or two. In terms of officer safety risk, I imagine that USSS Uniformed Division and Capitol Police have the least amount of daily risk? I guess it depends what you want out of the career in terms of future opportunities with other organizations?
Metro is trying to hire officers from other agencies to cover shifts.
I'm not that familiar with this world, but if people can get paid to sit around and stream YouTube while occasionally looking at a camera or raising a gate and then heading over to some other security gig after that like a bar, etc... Sounds like it's quite the payday.Don't know about th police, I'll let blackstar cover that.
I will speak to the quality of applicant in the private sector (who, incidentally, handle security functions at federal sites in the DC area) and say that it's in the toilet. Many are graduates of police academies who realized they could get higher pay with less crap. Some are washouts. Communication in english can be an issue but more than a few have been bounced due to dirty piss tests pre-hire or during training.
I don't know how bad things will get but I'd say that you should be considering the reality of handling any issues that come up yourself.
The phone/youtube crap is a hard no go on most federal sites. On some, probably okish. A lot of commercial places, no phuks are given until shart happens. Then it's weenie whack time.I'm not that familiar with this world, but if people can get paid to sit around and stream YouTube while occasionally looking at a camera or raising a gate and then heading over to some other security gig after that like a bar, etc... Interesting. Bring a few books or magazines to read I guess? Passing the time while getting paid substantially for it isn't the worst thing in the world. The phone/youtube crap is a hard no go on most federal sites. On some, probably okish. A former chief deputy sheriff I know pulled a gig part time on a fed site and was making almost as much at that as being the number two LEO in his jurisdiction. Part time. And he openly said it was FAR easier work with significantly lower daily risk. Anyone on the site was considered a threat until secured so a beatdown on an unarmed intruder was totally fine. Weapon? Shoot em. And no cell phones or outside photographic capable devices allowed. No youtube celebrity risk.
If actually standing post, no. Better have an active imagination. If out of sight, maybe you could do the magazine thing. The patrol gigs, probably not. Watching cameras, probably.Interesting. They’ll just quit or go to another LEOA.How is giving a new hire a $25k bonus fair to the officers who have been there for a couple of years? I'd think the union would be going apeshit crazy over this.
