    I was unable to make the zoom meeting with Pickel. Was there any mention if MSP plans to add more help with the current backlog of apps?
    Yes, they're doing three things:

    1) Hiring more Investigators (civilians) to process applications;
    2) Training Troopers and Civilian employees who are already on the job to work OVERTIME to process applications
    3) Authorizing OT for current Licensing Division employees to process applications.

    The Vacancy announcement was posted on MDS.

    Approved?

    Yup, I got some time to kill. My original class was scheduled for mid October but I was lucky to get bumped up when there was a drop out. I guess I’m ahead of the game considering.

    Are they passed the huge surge in apps. I feel like there was a giant surge and a more normal flow
    i think the wave is still going. I've not done any real research, but everywhere I've been that offers training, they're booked up into november/december at this point.

    People have stopped posting their application numbers but there are over 90,000 applications started YTD the majority of those have been in the last three months. Anecdotally the word is spreading and more people are learning it is possible to get a permit in Maryland. If it ever makes front page news the resulting tsunami would flood the MSP Licensing Division. I believe we have almost reached the "steady state" which is constrained by the training infrastructure which at the moment exceeds the MSP processing capability so the backlog continues to grow. There are applications already in the system that will be knocking on the 90 day statutory window before they are approved. So I think what people are experiencing is what will continue or get a little worse for the foreseeable future.

    Many questions remain:
    What will happen when we reach the 90 day limit?
    What will the MGA do?
    Will the General Assembly actions draw attention causing even more applications?
    Will the MSP manage to increase production to at least equal the rate of incoming applications?
