@BoondockSaint - How hard would it be to add the highest permit number recorded and maybe the first recorded number to the data updates? How about the latest accepted/nics date pair and/or latest NICS/Approved date pair? Like maybe once per week?

As I understand it, permit numbers run consecutively for each year and include new, renewed, and reissued permits with no way to differentiate just by number. Not sure what use that info would be? Also, I’ve seen no proof NICS dates have any meaning other than you get one before you’re approved … could be the day your accepted, the day your approved, or any day between.

I don't think it would be especially difficult. But I think it would be of fairly limited use and therefore beyond my willingness to track it. Perhaps someone else is willing to track that data.

I recognize that the spreadsheet is somewhat backward-looking because it isn't updated until someone is approved. With that said, those still waiting for action on their application can see the acceptance dates being served, when they got NICS, and see the number of days it took to get to each checkpoint. Using the curve of the graph along with approval rates should offer some insight into how long someone might have until their next checkpoint.

the first bit of data, the highest recorded license number would give us a very rough estimate of how many licenses have been issued since the data started getting tracked.
i admit the second set of data points would only serve as a semi-comforting quick reference for people still on the curve. Like knowing that 8/4 Accepteds are seeing NICS on 9/10 would tend to make the 8/5ers a bit happier. The 9/1 Accepteds, perhaps, not so much :)

either way, it was just an idle thought.

So should I be looking at the date of my accaeptance to guesstimate the wait, or figure on the latest batch of approvals as the length of time I shuld expect to wait?

Either way, it makes me ache.

Correct. The accepted date is the driver. There is a relationship between NICS-approved, but it's not a significant driver. NICS is good for 30 days, so for those that have gotten it early, I expect it had been re-done after the initial run.
Tell him to start the app now, that way when his training and everything is ready to upload, his acceptance will come faster according to data.
    This is not accurate.

The accepted date is the driver.
