Md criminal 4-203, the law I linked above, allows unloaded and Holstered firearms to be transported by unlicensed individuals, in lieu of a case, as long as they are traveling to one of the few approved destinations (home, business, place of sale or repair), or approved activity (dog training).
But, do not expect law enforcement to be aware of this exemption, and do expect a lengthy interaction with law enforcement if it is discovered.

The holster requirement for transport does not apply to licensed permit holders.

I discourage off body carry, like in a purse or car mounted holster.

It is your duty as a firearm owner to ensure retention and prevent unauthorized access to your firearm. There are too many news stories about deaths and injuries related to off body carry.
The 2 causes of firearms accidents/negligence are carelessness and ignorance. Off body carry is careless, or lends itself to carelessness.

Carrying a firearm is uncomfortable, at times... get used to it. Use it as a constant reminder that your responsibility as a citizen requires more attention now.

Driving with your pistol sitting in your console is not an issue.
Stop micro managing people you don't know.

I can see where a lot of these "misinterpreted laws" are probably because of strong opinions of the "Instructors". Many people see "discourage" and most likely think "Against the law" or "You can't".

The Law is actually worded "Wear, Carry, or Transport" which includes transport in a vehicle.

The law prohibits this, but grants an exception from the law to wear and carry permit holders.

If your carry method is uncomfortable, find a new method or new firearm.

Holstering/unholstering is a opportunity for negligence or accidents. You should resist doing so unless absolutely necessary.

Practice and train to draw from concealment in a vehicle. Add removing a seat belt to the access portion of your Training to present a firearm while seated in a vehicle.

If someone is this worried about a ND, then why not get something like the shape shift holster mount, then you can just remove from your IWB/OWB and snap into the car mount without ever removing the firearm from the holster... simple enough solution if it freaks people out so much that they think they wont be able to resist putting a finger on the trigger

I guess what it’s going to come down to is how many lawsuits are being filed against the department that pulls you over. PG just got a lawsuit for false arrest of a permitted person that had their gun in the car.

Discourage all you want! Carry how you want and I'll do the same!

The shape shift doesn't work like that.

    Just an FYI

During my class this was brought up and the instructor said he’ll I keep mine in the door pocket while I’m driving.

A friend was driving on 95 in White Marsh got pulled over told the officer that he had is Carry with the officer ask where. He told the officer it was in a bag on the passenger seat with is permit and drivers license. Cop said get me you ids and just leather gun.

So I guess this mount I just bought for mine is fake?? You are wrong.

The owb paddle and car mount work that way. You are correct.
The iwb hybrid and appendix, only use half of a shell and a trigger guard attachment. Re configuring those to work with the car mount requires more steps, spare parts ect. It's not a simple snap on, snap off.

I jumped the gun in my comment, because realistically, why would you carry owb paddle, with that specific owb paddle.

Agreed, not saying I would carry in the paddle config, but if someone is that freaked out about removing from one holster to another when entering and exiting a vehicle and possibility of having a ND, then would be the best option for them if they don't mind advertising they are carrying.

Or they could practice more on holstering/un-holstering

The appearance of an upholstered handgun may be considered brandishing in some states.

But Maryland does not have a brandishing law.

Gun safety dictates the trigger be protected on a loaded handgun, right?

I would not pocket carry an unprotected handgun (illegal in some states).

I would not allow a loaded handgun without a holster to appear either, but not illegal with W&C.

    IANAL
