It was never addressed throughout my training on that realistic scenario!

So whats in the statue for md handgun permits holders if attacked/chased/faced/ with a pack of feral/vicious dogs?

Duty to retreat?...but what if there is no ability to retreat(dogs run faster than humans.)

What are the ramifications for a md handgun permit holder???

    Realistic stuff!

You may use deadly force to protect yourself from serious injuries and/or death.

I’m not always a fan of Wikipedia, but sometimes it is a viable source (with references and footnotes to follow up with)

Per fedrill penile code 69.812, a handgun holder may only return equal force when attacked by animuls. In udder words, all yous can legally do is bite dem back

i've personally been chased by vicious dogs before! Somewhere buried on the forum i witnessed a cat being mauled to death by two pitbulls(the screech at first immediately made me think it was a child).

By the time you realize they are going to attack you (especially if more than one) you probably won't get the first shot off..

It's a farfetched scenario but a real possibility to those that live within radius of the city!

Again i reiterate if there are any repercussion?

When dialing 911 after discharging a round into a canine?

Literally zero information on this subject.

Dogs? What if you are chased by aliens? Or a large feral cat? Or maybe a rabid hamster? Trash panda anyone?

Call your favorite priest and turn yourself in. Confess everything.

Here we go on another trip to Waddif City.

This is actually quite a interesting situation. It doesn’t have to be feral or wild dogs. It could easily be someone’s pet that isn’t properly trained. Honestly with all the animal abuse and rights laws going on today along with society’s view towards animal, I would treat it exactly the same as being attacked by a human. Expect to be sued also

I have seen dogs running in packs while hunting, camping, and in urban settings. It can happen anywhere.

While on a retreat in my teens, the camp we stayed at had dogs tear open a door to get to food that was stored in the building. This particular pack of dogs was comprised of many different domestic breeds, but worked as well as any wolf pack. We left a few days early because of the dogs and the need to keep watch at night. They had also eaten or contaminated much of our food supply.

At the time, only one of the adults was armed with a .38 revolver. Most of us were just carrying sticks!

If attacked by anything, animal, vegetable or mineral,... I will defend myself until the threat has been stopped.

I have a relative in ST Marys Co, who when walking his small dog was approached by the neighbors PIT Bull. He told the neighbor to keep the dog on a leash, as it was running loose on his property (5 acres). Next time he walked the dog he carried a pistol, dog came at them again and he shot him in the head. Sheriff was called, report was taken. The End, no further action against him. I'm sure this would go down differently in other parts of the area.

If one cannot contribute intelligently and helpfully to an actual real life concern as outlined in this thread, they should refrain from posting.

No. Teeth are a deadly weapon. Dogs can kill and maim. I think a dog coming at you aggressively is a good reason to fear for your life.

The laws as they apply are different, the key is shooting /killing an animal is not Homicide, justified or otherwise as the law does not consider them people. Destruction of property, discharging firearm in city limits, animal cruelty etc apply, but not generally homicide, deadly force, self defense statutes. In many cases you can kill a dog to protect property in addition to protecting yourself or others from injury. There are no absolutes, but you won't be facing charges as serious as a homicide, usually have a lower burden of "self-defense", and with any history of prior attacks or bites, or evidence of danger, little chance of a conviction if you have a competent lawyer.

Feral dogs or wildlife can have different considerations, a feral dog won't have "destruction of property" charges, so less chance of trouble than a pet. Wildlife might have additional USFW or DNR laws protecting it, but even so less severe potential charges than using deadly force against a person. Tactically, best bet is to stand tall, unless the dog is defending it's territory, or you have a dog, it's probably just trying to scare you off, and will stop before it gets to you, but obviously prepare to stop the attack with the firearm. There are a lot of subtleties, shooting a dog in it's yard where you don't belong will be a different matter than a feral dog with a history of bites hanging off your leg, they do share 1 commonality, homicide will not be a charge.

TLDR: lots of misinformation, animals aren't people, and homicide charges and law do not apply, property and animal cruelty laws might. If you are being attacked by a dog, defend yourself.
