This has happened in other states, such as Pennsylvania. Long ago, there were problems with police receiving panicked MWAG ("Man With a Gun") calls and responding by proning out the poor carry permit holder.

Eventually not only police, but 911 operators got remedial training, and hopefully that stuff is ancient history there.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have some incidents here though. There will be a learning curve for everybody.
This was definitely a problem in Northern VA when they had the open carry only law in places that served alcohol but I've never seen it an issue in gun friendly PA.

You do not have to retreat when in your house but do when in your yard.
That's a ridiculous blanket statement that can't be applied to all possible situations. Everything is based on the totality of the circumstances not simply physical location.

I won’t tell people what they can or cannot do about their carry preference. But, I do discourage the practice of carrying a firearm in any type of bag that is not attached to the body like a holster would be. Wear it… carry it… but NEVER set it down anywhere.
That's the most fundamental and acceptable form of gun control. If it's your gun, be SURE you control it.

Well, you can be wrong or you can be enthusiastically wrong. lol

That was my instructors words, not mine. In their words, you can stand your ground in your home where you lay your head, not your shed, barn, etc. The statement surprised me. I should have put more context in the post as I was questioning the statement.

You should have asked him - If I'm on the ground in my yard getting my head beat in by a lead pipe, I have to somehow make it inside before I can defend myself?

Valid point. What I think they may have been implying was if someone is breaking it your shed, stay in you home.

And that's a valid consideration but way too many "instructors" generalize things and do more harm than good. (And in a lot of cases don't actually know better and are just spewing crap they've heard from others.)

It does in the context of if you wake up in the middle of the night to the sounds of someone breaking into your shed you can't blast them from the bedroom window. (in MD)
I’d feel quite threatened from right inside the sliding glass door.

Isn't that about the situation that uncle Joe "promised" we should give two 12ga blasts out into the dark? I think POTUS (or even VPOTUS at the time) outranks MSP, right?

So, I intentionally throw a distraction in my vehicle. For those of you who would leave your pistol in the car, do this.

I have a wad of play money that I set on top of everything in my center console. That's the first place they check. They get 700 bucks, they leaving immediately and aren't looking anywhere else.
    Perfect distraction.
Play/prop money on Amazon. Face the nice bright 100 up so it's noticeable.
I also keep a few hundred in my pocket for robbery throw down cash.

Well, it wasn't in my class, but I'm claiming this as the best thing I've learned in this thread! I carry a dummy wallet and keys in the rare occasions I go someplace sketchy, but this seems easier and useful in more situations

No. The retreat prevents that from happening. According to them.

I include it in my "class". :)
