Sounds simple enough and I am pretty sure I havent been perfect but when I spent a lot of time in Ohio I realized just how easy it is to carry in Maryland if you have a permit. Carrying with a lot of restricted and sensitive places is a pain. Its not always just a convenience store if you are spending a significant amount of time somewhere.

To each his own but I would never advise that someone knowingly violate a law because they disagree with it or find it impractical.
I'm not telling anyone what to do. You do you.
Have you ever been to Princeton, NJ? The whole town is a school zone. What do you do then? I know what I did.

I go by my almost 30 years experience carrying. Never has anyone noticed I was carrying and said anything. Never. As a cop sometimes I've open carried on the way to the office and stopped in places without a badge showing and not a peep from anyone.

My job was to carry in airports and on planes, everywhere around the world. Not one iota of anything from anyone who didn't know.
Don't touch your hip and bring attention to yourself and you'll be fine.

Any thoughts on under dash holster mounting? Just a simple reach forward for quick access. Think city driving, bumper to bumper, where retreat wouldn't be possible.

This is not for storage, but for quick access while driving. Personally, I wouldn't want to draw from a seated position while mucking with the seat belt.

They have RAM MOUNT ball holster systems.

I've seen these in my research. Do you have experience with them?

I used to use a heavy-duty cable lock for the rare occasion I had to go into a bank, PO, etc.. Pass through the trigger guard and through the seat frame, slip the pistol into a case and slide it under the seat. Hidden and locked without leaving the drivers seat.
You can't have the handgun in the PO parking lot either. Good way to get jammed up.

A note of caution for everyone while considering this topic.

While carrying under the conditions of your permit… any one of several fair options exist whereby one may secure their HG temporarily in a vehicle.

However, it would be wise to remember that under certain conditions, where that permit is not valid, the HG can NOT legally be stored any place within reach of the driver. No storage in the glove box, console, under dash/seat, etc.

Check the laws in states and areas where you plan to travel. Be aware of FOPA and how it applies to your CCW.

It’s also a good idea to watch the YouTube safe cracker videos. Some of those little security boxes are easily opened in seconds, without a key or knowing the combination, by those who know how. Buy a better one after watching the reviews.

I think each person should do what they are comfortable with but also know the potential consequences of their decisions. Most people's jobs dont involve concealed carry. I have spoken to many people who carry anywhere/everywhere regardless, that is their choice. I have been carrying for several years and I dont believe anyone has ever known I was carrying i have however spotted numerous people carrying.

I have the luxury of simply avoiding places like Princeton, NJ and many other cities/states that I dont care to visit. I know not everyone has that luxury.

This type can be had for $20-$40 and will at least slow down a thief.
    .
ETA- It won't stop a dedicated thief with tools, but for a smash and grab, they should work fine.

just remember every time you holster and unholster, and store and remove your firearm, it opens the possibility to a ND or AD. be super-safe when doing that stuff.

one of the many reasons i abhor all the "safe" zones, they mandate more handling which does come with a risk.

These cheap ass boxes work great for lashing through the staves in your check in luggage as well as a seat post on your car or trunk.

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious, but I can't seem to find the "rule" about w&c in vehicle. Are you allowed to have a dash holster or some degree of quick access outside of your waist band, or does the storage requirement apply when off person, regardless of permit? I have storage boxes in the 4Runner that are good for securing things, but access while driving is what I'm looking for.

There is no distinction about open or concealed with a permit that I know of.

I wouldn't be a fan of holstering or unholstering as a habit with a round in the chamber every time I entered or exited the vehicle. That being said I wouldn't think twice of having a car mounted holster hidden say under the seat for long drives.

Clip on holsters are more convenient in that aspect than belt loop holsters.
I think he means if you are running in somewhere to pull the gun and stow it not remove the whole setup. Sometimes it is hard to get it back into that Goldilocks spot after removal of the setup.

I understood, I prefer to remove it holstered any time I have to remove it.

If you're running errands around town, getting in and out of the car, just wear the dang thing. Longer trips, take it out and toss it in the console. If I am driving through, or going into the city, under my thigh it goes.
