I invite you to consider joining MSI and then joining the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore located in Mariottsville. MSI is an associated club and I'd be happy to walk you through a range orientation so you can purchase a range badge.

Oh wow, I just found out about MSI this morning while researching and plan on joining next month. I found out about the AGCB last week and would also like to join soon. When the time comes, I'll take you up on that orientation offer.

Welcome and congratulations on your newborn. Their safety should be tops in your minds so don’t forget to purchase a gun safe. Can be closet mounted, under bed mounted but at least it will keep little hands off of it and provide easy access when you may need it. Again, welcome from west of Frederick.

I think the thing I struggle with the most, and it's good for you to consider, the guys coming violently through the door likely don't care about life as much as you and I do, so factor that in. I worry about giving them the benefit of doubt and that may be too long. Complicate that with being in Maryland and under its draconian laws, makes for hesitation. Just run that through you head and get it out of the way, because when the time comes...and we hope it never does...you have less to deal with mentally. If it seems very ugly, then it is and you need to be the winner at all costs.

I accept any and all disagreements with this post.
My wife had the same reservations. Even though she's totally for guns and protection, she's sensitive towards people and the thought of harming someone (much less shooting them) sickened her. But she understands that if it's us or them, it's GOING to be them. It helps her knowing that we have the USCCA lawyers to back us up. I also liked the idea from a previous post by AmmoJon where the 'line in the sand' is the stairs to the bedrooms. We all have to decide where that line is going to be drawn for our families.

Definitely. That was our first priority. We've already purchased and mounted the safe, bought a cleaning kit and cleaning mat. We also have electronic ears, eye protection, and carrying case. The black hole is real lol.

Next step to really opening the “black hole” is to apply for your Designated Collectors Letter. That lets you avoid the one purchase every 30-day rule.

Ironically, I went over my wishlist this afternoon and had already decided I would apply.

Yeah, ypu might want to start working some overtime now and apply for a few more credit cards.

I retired early so I'm pretty flexible. We've also put on the AGC calendar a Saturday morning MSI membership and AGC badge renewal gathering. We can offer orientations then too. At this point it would make sense to wait for a 2021 badge.

Welcome. Training is always a good thing. Not a big Taurus fan but I’ve read good things about the G3.

The Taser Pulse is legal to carry in Maryland without a Wear and Carry for when you venture outside. Not as good as a firearm, but better than nothing. Not cheap, it's designed for civilian use as the shocks for a full 30 seconds instead of the police version of 10.

    :wave:Welcome from Davidsonville.

Taurus makes a good product for the money. Back when I was shooting IDPA, I used a 24/7 in .45 ACP and shot expert with it. I also carried a Taurus Millennium Pro for a few years before I went to a Kahr P9. My walking in the woods gun is a Taurus Tracker in .44 Magnum. ;)

Taurus USA is also one of the staunchest supporters of the 2A. :party29:

Welcome! And congrats on all counts!
Even the break-in had a silver lining, you're at the beginning stages of being cash poor and always wanting one more...

Honestly, the OP sounds like one of the most responsible new gun owners I have heard of. Good job.

Thanks! I've already had my wife sign up for some self defense training at the Heritage Training Center.

I was browsing the forums and, however, just found out about a gun range called Guntry only 20min from my house! And Tylers Firearms is only about 10min from my place and according to the forums it sounds like those guys are amazing!

At this point I'm already planning on saving up for my children's firearms. Even though my first born is only a few months old. He will have a nice fund for his first firearm.

From what I can tell, a Ruger 10/22 is a great rifle to start with? and a .22LR pistol is great to train with? I'm assuming for the "fundamentals"

I got several years to get this stuff straight lol.

Welcome to the club. Certainly take those classes. Join the NRA as they provide a host of classes at a reasonable rate compared to most you see online. My instructor went by the name of Ron David. He is a great instructor and a great person to get to know.
