That upper looks like he salvaged it from someones boating accident.
Enough of us have lost them in boating accidents.

It is a patina. You will lose value destroying it.

I would like to change the grip. It's not very comfortable.
I like the ones that have the flare on the bottom.

Aye, there is definitely rust near the barrel nut. And a boating accident salvage would be about the only explanation that would make it cool.
You didn't stake your castle nut.
Whats a castle nut?
I wouldn't use it. I don't trust Anderson. And I am curious based on your prior comments whether it was headspaced, whether any of the parts were checked for tolerances, whether the barrel nut was torqued to spec, castle nut staked, gas port verified. The list goes on ad nauseam.
But, to each their own, and if you are happy with it, then good. It is your gun, enjoy it.

It's dirt from being used.
Anderson is not a good manufacturer?
All parts were checked and cleared for proper usage.
The Barrel nut was torqued. 2x.
The castle nut as you can see was seated.
The gas port was installed and functions as it should.
It's a wonderful firearm.
So you shoved it into the ground, to try to plant a freedom seed?

Remember nice people, the upper that is on the firearm now is not the one that will be the permanent upper.
The upper that will be placed on It is being built by a GS. Imagine that if you can in your feeble little minds.

Was it checked for proper headspace ?
You know nothing about guns. That's just how they are used. All that shooting targets nonsense the kids are doing these days.
