We are currently planning on leaving this hell hole in 4 years....sooner if any of the loony bills make it through....but I am convinced we will stop them in their tracks.

There is no way I would live elsewhere and come back here for work. The idea of checking my civil rights at the border is a deal breaker that's for sure. If Md comes to it's senses, or more likely the supreme court beats it into them, I might consider staying but it's highly unlikely even then.

I'd prefer something west of the mississippi but the wife is cold to that idea. I want elk country. I want pointy mountains. PA is a compromise, but Kentucky looks good too.

We have a cabin in Juniata County, if all goes right we'll move in it when I retire. 11 acres, backs up to a mountain. I'll just need to build on to it and make it bigger

I grew up in delta, built houses in delta, and over the last year looked at dozens of homes for sale up there. I already bought my fixer upper, and have no money left to buy anything else, so if you see something send me the listing and if i know anything about it i'll let you know. Especially if its in the trails, there are a ton of money pits in there.

Thanks. We're looking at new construction, 'Delta Ridge'. It's just across the line, maybe a half mile from the ShopRite on 165. Current builder is Bob Ward. Don't know much about them, but I haven't heard anything negative either. Seems like a good location, can't wait to make the jump.

I would leave Maryland in a heartbeat, but my wife has family ties here. If senator Mike Lenett's "anti-assault rifle" and nazi-style gun registration law gets passed, though, I will be leaving the state and taking my business with me, either way.

My brother and his wife moved to Glen Rock, PA about 15 years ago from the Westminster, MD area. He told me taxes way back then were considerably less than in MD but in the last number of year the overall state and local tax situation in PA is rapidly approaching that in MD.
When Martin O'Money was elected I began a 6 year plan to increase the value of my current property in Carroll Co. so I could sell and escape the Peoples Republic of MD and go to PA.
I'm still working on my plan but depending on how the elections go this November and we are able to get a Governor who isn't actively trying to take our guns away --it may add a few year to my deadline.

I moved from Long Island to Fairfax about 20 years ago. Was nice then.
Have since gotten divored after 20 yrs, remarried and living in Frederick. Hate MD almost as bad as Fairfax.

Gotta keep heading south....warm...warm...no snow!! no snow!!...warm...no snow......

I was thinking about moving across the border into PA. Lots of nice motorcycle roads just over the PA line, plus I'll be able to own firearms without being persecuted.

I've heard that you can get some nice property just across the line for less than comparable property nearer to Baltimore. I was looking in/around the New Freedom area. I work in Baltimore, so it'd be great if I could shoot down I-83.

I don't need a big place, since I'm single. A modest-sized rancher with a garage and enough grass between me and the neighbors that they can't hear me screaming at the X-box when I get spawn-killed in Modern Warfare 2. Maybe a second bedroom in case I get married and decide to breed.

I have a little bit of equity where I am now...I'd have to do a little fixing-up but I can probably unload this place.

Anyone looked for property just over the PA line?
My sister did just that about 8 years ago, she lives in Hanover and works in Pikesville. They've made out very well and have way more house than they could have afforded here in MD.

I'm out in 2 years but I'm headed south.

My wife and I would love to move to PA and we have actively looked at several places up there. The newer the home, the worse the taxes will be. It seems that older homes have significantly less property and school tax. Either way, I would not move to PA to lower my tax bill. Won't happen. Sales tax is high, gas tax is high, and as discussed, home ownership taxes are through the roof. (Did I just make a pun?) Income taxes are marginally less, but not enough to make up for the rest. So, while their gun ownership laws may be inviting, the weight of the State Government's foot is mighty heavy.

I have a few friends who moved up there from down here. They still commute to MD for work, but enjoy the freedom. I grew up in PA and the biggest concern you need to factor in is the taxes. Unlike MD, certain taxes are paid out to the school district and municipality, besides the taxes you are used to paying here. You need to find out what these are and they are not normally something Marylanders consider because they're not used to them. That happened to one friend of mine and it nearly broke the bank.

One couple moved into a condo in Stewartstown. It's new, has 2 bedrooms and 1 car garage. I've been up to visit several times. He and his friends yell at the X-box all the time and no one hears him. It's quiet and big enough for 2 people to live comfortably. For some reason, I can't get google maps to load. The community is near the Subway. Look up the Subway and if you see a traffic circle near by, the community is on the other side of that circle. Very quiet and nice!

So you don't think you pay taxs in MD to support the scruols? Its all the same in the end, prolly more in MD

If I move, it will be south to something like the northern neck area of VA, the tidewater area of VA, or even Wilmington NC. I'd like to stay near the Chesapeake, and with Virginia, you get a bonus of and extended fishing season along with more citizen-friendly laws.

As we approach retirement, we need to balance accessibility of hospitals and shopping along with fishing holes, gun laws, and tax burdens. Northern neck seems to be fairly remote. Good luck to all considering a move from the People’s Republik.

I've framed dozens of BW homes in the past when i worked on a framing crew. I can say for a fact that the houses they were framing 10 years ago were done properly.

Unfortunately, that subdivision was started during the boom, and it kinda flopped a couple times IIRC. Some of the homes up there are gemcrafts, which would be a "lower cost" home in my opinion, so comps and prices will be all over the place. With subdivisions, the value of your house depends greatly on the value of your neighbor's homes, if your neighbors homes are a lesser quality, your home value suffers. One or two foreclosures or short sales and everyone is affected.

I built the 4 newer custom houses on slate spring road when i worked for Modern 6 years ago. Slate spring is off of quarry road, and there are a few lots up there that back up to the Md line that are screaming cheap.

They were listed at 95k+ last year at this time. Custom homes are always a better value.

This tool lets your search properties in york county by map, parcel number, or address. It will show the assessed values and the last sales price and date. You can use it to get a good idea of what the property vales are doing.

PA is the plan for me if Utah doesn't come together. Except for the miscellaneous oddtaxes, gun laws are better, theres no tax on clothing, housing is cheaper, and typically groceries as well...I'd mainly be in it for the gun laws and cheaper property though...

That's good to hear. So far I've been pretty impressed with what I've seen from BW, and I'm the kind of person who always looks for the bad when I buy something this expensive.

You're right, Gemcraft got kicked out (and later filed bankruptcy), and Korey Homes left of their own accord. BW has the last ~20 lots. There're quite a few under construction now so sales must be going well.

I'm not terribly concerned about the other builder's homes affecting my property value, in a few years nobody will care who built the houses. We're selling our 6-yr old townhouse now, nobody has asked who built it. But I know what you mean about foreclosures/short sales. We've got one of each in the neighborhood that are killin' us right now.

I saw those lots on Quarry. We talked to some builders, but the financing wouldn't work out for us, we can't come up with a large enough downpayment to make that happen.

It'll be interesting to see what happens after BRAC rolls through MD. I'll bet a few more new home communities start popping up over the line.

I agree, I'm interested to see what happens to Maryland after BRAC takes full effect, it has only begun. Both Fort Meade and Quantico were big winners in the BRAC. I'm hoping to sell a home here near Fort Meade.

Anyone looking to buy a house, in the 400k range? Great neighborhood :-)

Even during the boom they didnt do much development in southern york, except along 83. I expect most of the development to take place in Cecil county, there are several large developments started along route 40, with shopping centers, ect.

Many times my problem is two-fold.
    1) No water big enough to float my boat
    2) No trailer big enough to trailer my boat practically
