That is true, but if you are taking a trip to DC for the day, you are very limited in the places you can go even if it's not a federal building. I was surprised to see that DC bans the possession while in the METRO considering that VA and MD doesn't.
DC bans concealed carry in the metro. It does not ban possession. I know people who ride the metro every day to work with their firearm locked in their briefcase

    i hope it's unloaded
yes, if you have a backpack or briefcase and a small bag or lockbox inside for the gun inside of it, you can carry the ammo too as it counts as separate. You can do it all with soft containers and tiny cheap locks pretty easy.

The point is a lot of urban areas prohibit carry on public transit systems but don't prohibit possession

    Okay, thanks.

It's hard for me to justify the cost of the training and application fee when the majority of places around downtown DC are either federal property or prohibited. Seems like the only place you can carry is on the sidewalk.

I suggest you get some training from an attorney or a D.C. certified instructor.

I disagree strongly with your assertion.

I took the training & am getting the permit. Not because I plan on being in DC much, but because I feel that the more people that do get it, the better it helps our cause.

Waiting to see who is first to receive a Non G & S DC permit. Anyone?

Yours truly. Actually it was a renewal but without all the bullcrap I had to give them for the initial permit. Hand them the form, they run a background check while you go up the hallway to pay the $75 and walk out with permit.

They have moved the permits section down the hall from the firearm registration room.

I went to the new location and the officer asked if she could help me. "Yes, I am here to RENEW my carry permit."

"Renew? Oh, you're one of those."

    "Yes, ma'am." :D

    DC Law Course

Thanks,Swinokur and Stoveman. I will contact the guy.

    Just an update:
I took the DC Law course with Cypherpunk over the weekend. Pretty pleasant experience. If any are looking for a DC law course in the Frederick area, I would consider taking it from him.

He threw some extra info and caselaw my way, pertaining to my MD CCW. It was appreciated.

I visited D.C. today to drop off my application. Figured it would be a good time to go since the Man is out of town & traffic wouldn't have any reason to be screwed up. Decided to drive there instead of taking the metro, glad I did as it was a breeze. Found a metered spot 1 block from the building, walked right in then out in 20 minutes. Took a drive past the White House, then headed home. Easy peazy.

Engine4, did you take a DC 16 hour course, or did they let you waive in with a course from some other state?

really cannot carry on metro? that's a bunch of crap, and certainly a hassle to box/lock everything up and then find a suitable place to holster up outside of metro and then reverse the process heading back home. plus a briefcase, backpack etc is easier to get taken then something hidden on your person.

so other than a renewal, anyone gotten their dc carry permit or have a reasonable expectation for when they will be getting it?

interesting, and sad, if dc actually honors 2A more than merryland.

I find that there are no instructors close to the Annapolis area. Does anyone know if the list is complete? I guess that I could go to Frederick or MSAR, but prefer not to.
