what do you mean by "all"? The suggestion was just a letter from a private citizen with suggestions to rewrite the bill using a different constitutional foundation besides the commerce clause.

Nothing says the bill would be rewritten.

I mean when do they pass something. I'm still reeling from Hogan Day one :lol2:

I'd take it. Assuming DJT gets to serve eight years I could be on my way out anyway. :innocent0

i have no idea how a federal permit would work in a state that doesn't believe law abiding citizens should be able to defend themselves.

Expect the states to howl 10A infringements if this happens.

I sent an E mail to Mr. Sachs what about people who live in MD,CA,NJ,NY,CT where it is next to impossible or have to show a G&S reason to get a concealed carry permit. Here is his reply about using the non resident Utah Permit
"I see – my apologies for misunderstanding you. Yes, if the revised bill were passed into law, then someone with a valid permit from another state like Utah could still carry in Maryland, without needing to seek a Maryland permit as well. Thanks for following up.

Mr Sachs is one authors to replace the proposed bill to replace Commerce clause for nation wide concealed carry with the Full Faith and Credit law

This attorney wants the bill's language changed to use the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the COTUS, rather than the Commerce Clause..

    IANAL.

Maybe one of our legal eagles can comment on what this does to NR permit home state carry provisions. My read is that would be eliminated.

I think the other intent was to guarantee reciprocity to residents of Constitutional carry states. I don't see the claimed ambiguity since the use of the word OR seems pretty clear.

I agree with Esqappellate the wording in his version eliminates NR permit carry in MD for MD residents.

I also don't know the procedure for changing an already submitted bill. It might require amendments rather than just a rewrite.

This is a really good legal article. I agree, it may well eliminate NR permits use in MD. But there are limits to what the Federal government can command the States to do or not do. And those limits are important. Tomorrow, the antis may be back in the majority. We will want those limits then.

Amending it shouldn't be too tough if the majority of members of the subcommittee are cosponsors.

We put up with permits now because it's what we have and it's important to keep moving forward, but constitutional/permitless carry nationwide is where we should be, and that includes Maryland.

well, as far as MD and DC are concerned, the first step is getting shall issue before jumping all the way to permitless carry.

Yes. Absolutely, and we'll get there, but the overall goal is permitless carry. Ideally, if we were offered the choice of shall issue or permitless carry right now it goes without saying that we'd jump on the latter, all else being equal.
