Absolutely not! This is only an intermediate step, their final goal is confiscation and destruction, have no doubt about that. This is the ONLY goal they have been working towards for the last 80+ years, and they will never stop until they wipe all guns except those in possession of their enforcement arm or police from the face of the earth. WE can never stop until we wipe THEM from any position of power.

Seems a bit of a leap to get from 3k Facebook likes to representing 100k Marylanders. Does Alan think that if you hunt you must be a MHC person?

Now I've read the text of this bill, and I don't see any exemption for transferring a rifle to a gunsmith for repair, mods, etc... Would that have to go through an FFL also? I could see an eager States Attorney trying to send you to the pen for not being able to work on your own firearms.

    EDIT:the bill text: http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/2017RS/bills/sb/sb0948F.pdf

First reply from my letter sent this morning... from Justin Ready who is my Senator, friendly to 2A, and might be the only member of the committee who actually takes the time to write back to me:

    Dear Dr. M....,

Thank you for taking the time to contact me with your thoughts about the proposed long gun bill and protecting our 2nd Amendment rights. I really appreciate hearing from you.

I do not support SB 948 – I am firmly opposed and believe it is ill-conceived, unnecessary, and runs counter to Constitutional protections.

You can count on me to oppose the bill and fight in favor of greater firearm freedom. I’m sponsoring pro-gun legislation with several other Senators this year, including right to carry. Please feel free to contact me anytime at 410-841-3683 or Justin.Ready@senate.state.md.us when you have a question or concern. I’ll do my best to keep you updated as we move forward in the 2017 Session.

    Sincerely,

    Sen. Justin Ready

The Hunters let Hogan know they have his back and vice versa. Glad to know he's with us too. Oh wait....he won't talk to people that actually care about gun rights and not the next set of antlers they'll mount on their hood.

I've heard back from two of my delegates. Responses below...

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to Delegate Afzali’s attention. I have not read the bill yet, and doubt Delegate Afzali has had the chance since it is on the Senate side. I will bring this to her attention. (This is understandable as the bill is on the Senate side at the moment.)

Thank you for reaching out to our office. We always welcome input and recommendations from our constituents. I will be sure to pass your thoughts and concerns along to Delegate Ciliberti, so he can take them into consideration.
(Not a ringing support, but communication has opened)

    I will continue to press.

I bet more hunters are active in MDS than in his organization. Moreover, if hunters began to learn that MHC isn't interested in protecting their long gun rights, MHC would bleed support. As you're implying, in no way does MHC represent 100k hunters in MD, and the 3k likes on FB is meaningless. MDS has over 20k accounts, with 3-4k people signed in and participating at annual peak periods. I bet our page views trounce theirs.

My belief is that Allan doesn't give one whit about guns or gun rights. He is a dyed in the wool Fudd that would rather make nice with Democrats in the legislature and play patsy. He's confident that they aren't coming for his Remington 700, crossbow or 870. The rest of us, and in particular the Patriot Picket folks, are screwing up his chances to make nice with Mike & Mike and give out orange hats for cool photos.

Sorry, I wouldn't be caught dead with Sen. Mathias who took the chickenshit route in 2013 by voting to end the filibuster on the FSA and then voting against the FSA to keep up his conservadem cred. Sen Mathias is as bad as any other gun grabber if not worse - because he's a fraud.

But see, sellouts like Allan think we're just a bunch of raving survivalist loons that don't appreciate the tradition of being a "sportsman". We of those "ratta tat tat" guns are just ruining everything. He's got no time to deal with anything that might put off his liberal friends that could give him an extra weekend to collect some new antlers.

I hope my contempt isn't showing too much.

They sound like the very definition of the IGMs* I started talking about 4 years ago, before knowing this 'organization' existed.

*I've got mine... not concerned about any firearms law, as long as what they own & use is covered.

Lol, I have a more serious (and respected) position than that guy. He's just a PR flack (apologies to PR guys on this board) hustling for his next job. In his line, maintaining good relations and connections that might benefit him in the future will trump fighting for any protections of MD hunter long gun rights. He might argue that he's arguing smartly, but that's bs. His efforts did squat last year.

As we've discussed, despite what he claims, he has no constituency and in no way represents a majority of MD hunters. The folks that were effective last year in protecting hunters were the ones he called animal activists (lol). Those are the guys that were out there daily, got press attention (more than the PR flack), and led the charge that helped in the demise of laws which would have hurt hunters.

As for "talking"...no evidence that I know of that "talking" on the internet moves the chains at the Statehouse.

It's troubling that Gov. Hogan refuses to be seen in public with us.

And the Legicritters who are with us have to whisper their thanks as they walk by us on the bricks.

    Sad.

No, better than you describe. These days our "friendly legislators" stop to shake hands, fist bump, wave and high-five us. They are mostly openly supportive. Just today a legislator repeated what we've been hearing a lot:"you guys are giving us a real boost in there", he said, gesturing toward the Statehouse.

We heard the same thing last year when one after another of the anti-gun bills were falling or failing. The legislators said seeing their own voters protesting Femicrat infringement attempts so vigorously on the sidewalk gave them the confidence to bring that energy onto the floor with them.

I don't think it was entirely a coincidence that after hours on the street today bashing the Democrats... we then saw most of the Senate Republican delegation--including the Minority Leader--walk out of today's session! We are seeing our people find their Inner Warrior!

So you think it's more just self interest than a fudd mentality?

We were out there on Rowe Blvd at 7am in a small bore Nor'easter this morning to greet arriving Maryland Hunting Coalition members, legislators and their staff.

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Deep Lurker and I hitting the bricks for the first Patriot Picket. A year ago, the MHC snapped pics of us and declared online that we were illegitimate, and likely gun rights imposters. The resulting blowback to MHC was intense, and put the Patriot Picket on the map.

After the rain and snow let up this morning we grabbed a pic with me and biggfoot44.

A big thanks for being out there; excellent stuff as always.

The MHC is utterly clueless and unable to see the big picture.

Was referring to some of the ones I encountered Tuesday.

Was in no way trying to diminish Legicritter enthusiasm.

If you want to wake up early enough, you can hear Allen on WCBM on Saturday mornings. In my opinion, he just wants to be somebody and hob nob with the pols and make the hunters and fisherman think that "he's the man." Just be forewarned, if you have half a brain, you won't listen to the show too long.

Totally agree. He has fluffed himself up more than a wild turkey decoy.

I have had the occasion to listen to his drivel on the sidewalk as well as his over-inflated persona the radio, and you are right, I couldn't take more than a few minutes of either one. Ugh.

John: thanks again for joining our Patriot Picket Army on Tuesday at Lawyer's Mall. You were a big part of a very successful event!
