Would the value of a Machine gun go down? I dont think the NFA (if it were) going away would cause that would it?

I assumed when talking about the NFA we were referring to the tax and regulation of SBR's, Suppressors, Machine Guns, and AOW's. If the NFA were to go away I would hope that the 1986 ban on producing new machine guns for private ownership would also go away with it. If that goes away, sure prices on Full Auto's would drop overnight. The only reason they are so expensive now is that there is a fixed number of them and that number isn't growing. Once you are able to produce them to sell to the public, the prices would crash pretty hard.

I hate to piss on yawls campfire, but soon as the hood rats can lay their hands on readily available suppressors, they will probably be used quite heavily in street crimes.

Someone had to say it.

    Static analysis is worthless.

They are not using suppressors now, so I doubt anything would change. They could use oil filters or make their own cans easy enough if they wanted. NFA laws only impact us, not criminals. In fact, a prohibited person caught with an unregistered machine gun is not subject to NFA penalties. Seriously.

Jigs would be available to mill out room for the auto sear and drill the hole for it. Then just get a full auto parts kit and boom, you're done. Practically every AR15 lower in existence would be converted to select fire.

Yep, my point exactly. Prices would nosedive.

But the MGA loves the hood rats and doesn't want to punish them.

Suppressors would make it easier to commit crimes. Which means no getting caught. Which means no punishment.

This may fly in Maryland after all.

Lol. The law of unintended consequences. Win-win!

Static analysis. Remove them from NFA, whole new ball game.

Is this a parody of what the anti's reaction will be or what?

This is the whole debate between the forces of goodness and the forces of evil: that honest people can't have stuff because a minority of others might misuse it.

Remember that the next time you go machine gun shopping.

Kinda liken it to when GB legalized heroin, ya know, to cut down on crime and such. Heroin addictions exploded.

Guess I'll just go find someone else's campfire to water...

Could this be the start of a very vicious roller coaster ride? President Trump loosens regs for NFA items. Then one day (hopefully a very long time from now) a Democrat becomes president and all NFA items become illegal to own. So on and so forth. Revolving regulations would be a pain.

    Is this a Pandora's Box?

Some states REQUIRE Federal Registration for NFA devices to be legal. Im not saying reduced regulations is a bad thing, but it may be a bad thing for some residents of some states.

I believe MD is one of those states.

Interesting. Written by a career civil servant who starts the memorandum by quoting the Second Amendment (props to him for doing this). Dated January 20. The ATF is nervous about the blowback so states it isn't the ATF view, just this guy's opinion. And an anti-organization, which is only interested in restricting more and more 2A protections, calls it a step backward. Note the language and frame they want to present this as. It's never compromise with them. It's take away some rights on day 1, and come back on day 2 to take away more rights. This should be characterized for what it is - a step forward in undoing bad laws that infringe and don't do anything for public safety; a step forward in restoring rights to the people.

google is your friend, I am not.

Shocking that this was printed in WaPo.

Can I get a little love for federal pre-emption on the sale of "assault rifles" - as in the states have to allow the sale. Interstate commerce must mean something.

I guess I'll just remember how it was going to be "The Wild West!" if anybody got liberalized CCW.

Kinda liken it to when GB legalized heroin, ya know, to cut down on crime and such. Heroin addictions exploded.

Don't see the point. Are you agreeing with the anti position that items like suppressors should remain controlled because some may use them in crimes? That there is going to be an "explosion" in crime if suppressors and FA are suddenly unregulated?

Take a look at the actual white paper when you get a chance ...

    http://apps.washingtonpost.com/g/do...the-white-paper-on-firearms-regulations/2325/

It's more far reaching in its suggestions than the Post is covering (15 or so different areas). I can understand the Washington Post focus (with Donald Trump Jr pics) on removing this regulatory burden from suppressors as this has some Congressional support/interest. Other things this guy touches on include green tip 5.56 ammo, the stabilizing braces, using the more appropriate terminology of "modern sporting rifles" instead of the (incorrect) pejorative assault rifles, the importance/significance of sporting activities such as 3-gun shooting, enabling FFLs to sell at out-of-state gun shows, getting rid of outdated/useless regulations, etc. Just amazing.
