Just spoke with a del-ton sales guy.

The 7.62X39 uppers are on backorder, they have the barrels, but not the bolts.

Their website, has a ghost issue, from time to time, the 7.62X39 will become available. They haven't figured it out yet, so if you place an order when an upper is available, they will honor the price, because you are considered locked in, and your order will be flled when the parts become available.

If I to build another AR I would do it!! Did they say the backorder time on the bolts??

He said the conversion barrels are backordered for a year. The bolts that they get is hit and miss, but not enough to fill their current orders.

Get the upper stripped from Model 1, you DONT want their bolt anyway.

If you are building a 7.62x39 upper you want to build a good bolt. The Model I bolts give light strikes. You want a M16 Carrier and an MGI Enhanced 7.62x39 Bolt. Add a O Ring to the extrator and youll be golden with some C CProducts Hi Caps.

A good feed ramp job helps with feeding as well.

I have messed with a good bit of conversion uppers and this combo will work.

MGI has the barrels if you want to build one. (Due in one month)

Do you know if DTI offers the upper minus the BCG?

I'm trying to make these ARs, budget guns :D

If I could find the components on sale then slowly acquire that would be fine.

I like the idea of spending less than $450 for an upper. Can I afford better, of course I can, but I'm looking at this of making an AR with the least amount of money.

Oddly enough, I'm finding it fun to look for that extremly good deal, instead of just saying "give me that".

I just got back from an old friend/FFL. He has some serious deals on ARs, 1903, Garands, Mosins, PSL-54Cs.

Hey do these 7.62 uppers need the heavier hammer spring that the 5.45 uppers recommend? I would expect hard primers on both ammo types? Probably a moot point as my next build will be a Grendel.

Can you offer up a complete upper for $440?

Not that Im aware of, but Im trying to help you get a gun that works off the bat.

If you have to pay for parts in order to use it, or pay a smith to get it to work its not going to save ya at all.

The 7.62x39 uppers are finnicky if they arent built a certain way.

No heavier hammer spring needed. They do need the cheap Model 1 Bolt Head Machined for deeper Firing Pin Penetration., or to work without breakage a MGI Bolt Head.

If you use a heavy Hammer Spring without Polishing the Bolt Carrier Underside of Hammer Face it can cause too much friction and short stroke.

I found a Remington 700 SPS (new in the box) in 308 Winchester for $475, with a $40 mail in rebate.:party29:

Downside is my nephew is hunting with it right now, Hopefully I'll get to shoot it next month (If the PA weather cooperates).

    Anyone ever deal with GalatiInternational.com?

Galati has 16" and 20" complete uppers for a decent price, with free shipping...

In my build, I used a complete upper from MidwayUsa.com

Olympic AR-15 A3 Flattop Upper Assembly 7.62x39mm Russian 1 in 10" Twist 16" Barrel Stainless Steel Black with M4 Handguard, Flash Hider, 28-Round Magazine Pre-Ban

The only down side is you have to have the shipment sent to an out of state address because of the magazine.

Magazines are more expensive than the standard ar Mags. You want to get the C-Product Mags that go for $16

I have shot a lot of the cheap wolf holow point ammo, out of the rifle. the only problem I hd was with the magainzes, a couple needed a little tuning with a dremel.

Better buying the C-Products mags direct from C-Products. They are up a their 4th generation of the 7.62x39 mags - the previous three had some issues. But a lot of them are in circulation at the normal sellers.

Even the 4th have issues with nosedives, jams, etc. They are fine for fun, but I wouldn't consider them reliable if I really needed them. The problem starts with the AR-15 magwell not conforming to the curvature required by the 7.62x39 case. Note the straight portion at the top -- that it needed due to the AR magwell. Unfortunately it is an unnatural curve/angle for these rounds.

Again, fine for fun. But the caliber is a bit of "square peg, round hole" in an AR. Too bad; I really wanted it to work. If you are looking for a good gun to play with and don't mind monkeying with gear, go for it. It's just not always a good out-of-the-box experience.

Of course, others have had more luck than me. Just sharing one experience.

EDIT: Inigoes found the thread before I did. Thanks.

I have an Olympic 7.62x39 AR, and I had problems with the Wolf hollow point ammo not being stabilized well and keyholing at 50yds. All the other ammo I have used has been fine including Silver Bear HP. It's only the Wolf HP bullets that have problems.

1 in 10 twist rate, 16 in barrel?
