Good question to ask, I'm interested and agree, if true, it could be political.

I still purchase RECOIL magazine off the rack from time to time. This passive exposure, like seeing gun magazines and people wearing pro-2A clothing is important.

We've discussed before why it's a good idea to recycle gun magazines (periodicals); like giving them to your friends, leaving them around, like at dentist/doctors offices, etc.

I can report that Fort Meade has a large and health stock of gun magazines and decent supply of guns for sale too. I was eyeballing both a 6&4" GP100 there very recently.

Great work by the way EL!

Not to hyjack but I leave magazines anywhere I can. Hotels, Metro, restaurants, etc. I also think some of the younger generation need to put some bumper stickers on their cars.

Many people balk at pro-2A, pro-NRA, etc stickers, but for most folks, I say why not? I encourage it because the more people see these stickers, the more 'normal' it will be, especially in Maryland, where we are on the front lines of this struggle for Liberty. Large parts of New York, CA, and Massachusetts are already lost causes, as is pretty much the entire state of New Jersey (arm pit of America). Maryland on the other hand is probably the most important state in the US on these issues, we are literally divided by towns and counties. Having stickers, etc. is not for everyone, some folks just don't need the extra attention, but in general, its a good thing for Maryland and America.

By the way, when ever I see that someone left a gun magazine laying around, it makes me think it was someone from MDShooters that did it, and I can't help but smile. Thanks for that!

Great idea John. You have given me a great idea for my old gun magazines. I am going to start leaving them at doctors offices, etc. I was saving them up for someone that wants them.

Mostly I only subscribe to the ones I want. But the important thing about perusing the store rack, I sometimes find another subscription candidate.

Print isn't dead. The industry as a whole is doing what it always does. Expand until it can't make a profit and then contract until it can. Kills off the weak and keeps the ad pages on the strong titles.

Per Giant, it doesn't surprise me and I think it's a local thing.

Maybe I am too paranoid, but the reason I don't put 2A stickers on the vehicles is I don't want to encourage theft when I am not home. Kind of like why people are generally opposed to publicized lists of CCW permit holders. However, I very much enjoy seeing such on others' cars/trucks when I am driving around. I might have to rethink this...

"scopes that cost more then your car" LMAO, that's a good one.

Walmart in Aberdeen had a bunch of gun mags last week, including this one called "Concealed Carry", which is pretty redundant for here in MD, but hey you got APG folks who can move back to the USA when done there, and some DE and PA peeps pass through. The gun mags at this Walmart are probably there for the APG folks though lol, and us local rednecks of course.

The Walmart in Shrewsbury PA should have about 30 different gun mags there lol, but as I recall last I was there, it was about the same as the Aberdeen Walmart.

EL,, here is an article that doesn't exactly address your topic but adds history to how we gun enthusiasts were able to become educated, entertained, informed and enriched by the fine men who wrote about all the stuff we love about guns, hunting, ammo, etc.

    http://www.fieldandstream.com/pages/who-was-greatest-gun-writer-all-time

I must add another couple names to the list of guys in the article. I thoroughly enjoyed reading as much as I could that was written by Larry Weishuhn and Jeff Cooper.

Glad to see Elmer Keith, Jack O'Connor, Townshend Whelen and Warren Page were discussed in the article above. I read many many an effort by all these fellas. Sadly, I suspect what EL1227 is concerned about just may be a serious tactic of the antigunners put into play in order to water down exposure to the benefits of guns just like school curriculum water down History in their attempts to paint the picture they want to "educate" our kids as to what the world means through their rose colored glasses instead of our true heritage.

Let's hope if a reduction of Gun publications is being manipulated in a similar way that liberal politicians are sure to stuff ballot boxes, stir the pot of unrest and feed the masses with "News" spun their way, that till our last breaths some will continue to carry the ball and keep good gun writing available to those who seek it in the future.

I think it is a combination of things, due to our high quality public education fewer people can read a magazine, the groceries stores are owned and run by corporations that must knuckle under to the national socialist visions of the party that brought us Jim Crow, the Ku Klux Klan and the Civil War, and many of our poorly educated people are frightened of the sight of firearms and regard the very word "gun" to be a provocative call for violence. I have had a grown woman tell me she was afraid of my NRA hat and a grown man, in a retirement home, tell me he was frightened of the sight of my cloth shopping bag from Gun Broker. I can see why a grocery store may not want to have the socialists for a miserable society protesting there over gun magazines, adult magazines, or magazines of any kind.

    Well Said, Wheaton Hills.
I was basically raised and educated relatively well despite my early rebellion in middle school. Also, I sure am old enough to say I remember the good old days. Almost every day I ponder the mess our country, cities, and even rural areas have degraded into, I long for some semblance and hope that we can make inroads into restoring the attributes of our nation that allow our future generations to say they actually know what "good old days means" instead of WTF happened while we were jackin this place up kinda days.

You can subscribe for $8.00 per year. Who buys one at a time?

Maybe somebody who doesn't need every issue, is new to shooting or just curious, or looking to see which magazines they might want to subscribe to.

I never visit the grocery store mag aisle, but the op has valid points and it's a legit concern. Maybe talk to the manager for starters, and call to Giant's and others' consumer affairs?

Not at Giant on 41st in 21211. Noticed about 2 months ago.

Not interested in paying $8 for a mag that tells me their opinion on a gun they are also advertising elsewhere in the magazine.

How do we let the distributor know we are pissed, stop buying any magazines? I'm way ahead of you there.

I noticed this two years ago as well, in this thread, 6 full rows of magazines to very little a short time later. To be part of the survey - Yes they are way too expensive, but they disappeared quickly.

I'm almost afraid to post up where you can get gun mags any more lest Mom's Desperate for Aerobics run screeching to the store demanding they remove them. Amazing how far we have fallen in a few years. Not just guns but any form of political incorrectness is becoming enthusiastically suppressed.

Grocery store here in Silver Spring had a few on display today. Gun World and Shooting Times, five bucks each. No Guns&Ammo, but there was a special G&A edition dedicated to the AR-15 platform. Nine bucks! The price seems steep, considering all the ads inside the magazine.

Overall, the total number of titles, on any subject, in their magazine rack is slowly declining.
