Just based on casual observance, gun-related magazines are being pulled from local supermarket chains. There are NONE at Giant, Safeway, or Food Lion in SoAACo that I have seen. This is a very recent occurrence and I'm wondering whether it's just local, statewide, or nationwide, and whether it's chain-specific or an action by periodical distributors ?

Could this be yet another subtle attack on 'the gun culture' brought on by pressure from Spinny Vinnie and Marylanders To Prevent Gun Violence, or onerous national actions funded by Bloomberg Buck$, or something prompted by nefarious new 'state regulations' on what can and cannot be displayed in public ... until they start showing up in plain brown wrappers.

I hope that there is an MDS member who can shed some light on this odd occurrence, and I'd like to hear from others around the state and country on what they see, or don't see on the newsstands.

I still get Guns & Ammo and Shooting Times delivered by mail, but I really miss the dozen or so titles I could peruse and choose from when picking up a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk on the way home from the range.

Chime in with your findings and what I think may be the next way gun-grabbers are attempting to influence public opinion.

I noticed this about two weeks ago. The Edgewater Giant always had at least 10 different magazines. Now they have none. I'm sure political correctness or political pressure is the reason.

Readers, please don't recommend boycotting Giant. I am too old and disabled to live off the land. But, I would if I could.

Shoppers in Crofton used to have several, lately none. Giant in Crofton ised to have alot, was in there last week and they had two. Recoil magazine and Guns & Ammo I believe. Yes I think they are cutting back. Even Walmart.

Look at newspapers. Print is dying. Another reason is who wants to spend $4-$7 for a magazine with one article worth reading. Look at the music industry. Remember record stores? In the old days a record might sell a few million copies, now a couple hundred thousand is a big seller. Things change.

This isn't a Giant thing, or Safeway, or Food Lion thing. This is a leftist pressure tactic. If ALL of these chains use the same distributor, lets hit that company with everything we can. I'll do some digging, but if there is anyone in-the-know, please clue us in.

Also, how wide spread is this phenomena ? Is it just supermarkets, or does it manifest itself at chain drug stores like CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid ? How about 'real' newsstands like at the airport ? I'd like to get a handle on the extent of coverage as it would provide a clearer picture of who and what is behind this attack on 2A by infringing on 1A.

I still see them in Columbia, and Columbia is as Liberal as it gets - heck Dicks there, stop selling guns there about 6 years ago. I bet, nobody is buying them, so why stock them.

That could be the case, and most likely will be used as THE reason when the source of the 'ban' is ultimately questioned, but ...

The supermarket newsstands still have dozens of exercise, men's & women's health, CAR MAGAZINES, and even ones on hunting and fishing. And the mere fact that the gun mags started mysteriously disappearing about two weeks ago ???

Sure, the print industry is dying, but what I think we are witnessing is selective euthanasia.

With youtube, and other online gun reviewers, do we really need firearms periodicals anymore?

Nope you can get the same conflict of interest reviews right on youtube. Company gives new gun to magazine or youtube channel. They talk positively about it, creating more sales for gun manufacturers, and ensure said reviewer gets the next new product and thus more viewers and advertising money.

Could this be yet another subtle attack on 'the gun culture'

It's an attack on American culture, in general.
Re the magazines in supermarkets: yes, I've noticed it, too. However, bookstores like Barnes & Noble have a rack full.

Wife and I get American Rifleman and America's 1st Freedom in the mail every month. Between those two and the internet, I have no need for others. If enough people think the same, it could partly explain the disappearance of other gun mags.

    That's NOT the point.

WE in the 'gun community' get our information in many ways, and taking a copy of G&A is a little easier than watching a video on your iPhone in the crapper. I'm being factious, but if the ONLY time that John Q Public is exposed to a gun in use is part of a drive-by shooting on the evening news, they're going to think that ALL gun owners are representative.

Seeing gun mags on supermarket newsstands has the same psychological effect on people as when I casually wear gun-logo'ed togs everywhere I go or if I could, open carry with an even greater impact.

Oh LOOK ... There's a gun magazine, a gun t-shirt, a gun in a holster for all to see, and ... NOTHING HAPPENED !!!

But, HIDE it and the liberal media drives an image of fear and distrust. Just look at what Rack & Roll and his 2A Patriots are doing to counter the message that 'guns are bad' at the anti-gun protests today. Out of sight, out of mind works against us.

Part of it is likely that one of the major publishers went under.

That doesn't explain why Guns and Ammo and Shooting Times aren't still on the shelf every month. Me, like thousands of others subscribe, but they still used to show up at Giant every month.

    THX ...

It's good to know that Barnes & Noble still carries a full compliment. Hopefully they will continue, but they are a specialty store where the casual purchaser isn't exposed.

Has anyone checked out the drugstore chains ?
