How come there aren't 100 people willing to conceal carry without a permit and then be arrested? If the 2A is truly a civil right, why aren't hundreds of people in the state rallying to overturn it? As far as concealed carry in the state, I do not see it changing. In light of the Orlando attacks, look to see Maryland enact more stringent gun laws. I smell an all out ban on the AR15.

Concealed carry is all about the concealed part. If done properly, how does anyone know which of the hundreds of people you encounter every day is illegally carrying concealed for self-protection?

True.. but the people carrying illegal anywhere are not advocating to carry legally. My uncle marched in protests and was beaten and had dogs set on him for civil rights for blacks in America during the 60's. He was arrested dozens of times because of how strongly he believed in civil rights. 2A is a civil right. How many of us are willing to go all the way to get it? That's all I was saying. ...

Much respect for your uncle. To do something similar for gun rights, the handguns would need to be holstered in open view (and unloaded, to decrease the severity of the possible charge), but it may be hard to do repeatedly if they confiscate all of your guns as a result.

As a side note, I do think open handgun carry is less scary to the hoplophobes in society vs open long gun carry.

    ...

As for the Ar15... it's the devil and will be the ban it will be the rally cry of politicians for years to come until it is gone. Clinton already praises the gun ban in Australia so look for that to be on her agenda.

Just like FSA 2013/SB281 was a Democratic Governor's response to Sandy Hook, there is some solace to having Hogan in office now, even if his vetoes can be overcome by the Democrats. I would expect we see useless, feel good legislation that seeks to move us closer to CT or CA next year. It's going to be a real fight.

If Hogan has "courage of conviction" that would indicate he is anti 2A. Because he certainly hasn't shown he has any will (or balls) to publicly state his position otherwise..

IF he was so Anti-2A (as you claim) and had courage of conviction.

PLEASE tell us why he has not been openly advocating for a total ban on civilian owned/carried firearms in Maryland?

His practice is not standing up to your rhetoric for you. It takes absolutely NO courage in the state of Maryland, to stand up for gun bans. NONE... NADA...

I respect your uncle's efforts and sacrifice.

Your question has much merit. I suspect many of us are not willing to sacrifice the ability to own firearms and defend ourselves and our families, precisely because we have much more to lose than your uncle. He was already significantly marginalised by society and the times.

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose, as someone said. Most of us are far from that level of freedom, and are hanging on to what we've been able to retain. Then too, our level of repression by the Powers that Be is still on a considerably lower level than what your uncle had to endure.

We also have the option of packing up and moving to America; it's only a few miles to the border, and we don't need a visa.

On this one, RD is correct. Even the smallest foreward steps are NOT actively working against us. He has not worked against us, period.

Feel free to take any unused opportunities for advancement, lukewarm positive actions, and communication of his views or lack thereof into your personal political calculus in comparrison to rabidly anti-gun Dem to be named later. But working against us is not part of the equation.

Your post (and T'Challa's) reminded me of this recent NRA video ...

Good thing she doesn't live in inner city Baltimore, with the HQL training requirement/impediment. Hogan should watch it and know that she would have no chance to get a carry permit either in MD.

You know it's a shit sandwich when doing nothing is considered progress.

I guess you've never play a full on drag your butt through the mud tug of war.

Maryland 2A community members have been dragged steadily to and across the line for decades... Having a few years off from being dragged... and even gaining a couple steps back from total loss... IS progress.

There is much work to be done and it won't be accomplished in one session. But tossing in the towel with a load of disparaging defeatism will destroy momentum and hand us another defined loss. Grab a better hold on that rope and help pull. Giving it back to the dems out of frustration with how progress is viewed, is simply not an option to be entertained within the ranks.

He has to choose between 2A supporters and appeasing the liberals...he's ignoring us...we know where we stand in his priorities...How does it feel to be less important than the liberals who deny us our rights?

Yet some here keep defending him and telling us how a couple of cost saving moves are a stride forward and we need to keep up the fight.

Hard to stay motivated when your elected leader ducks for cover any time questions about 2a and carry outside the home are brought up.

He is going to have to work pretty hard to keep my vote.

Hey, y'all want to see repression? Move to Northern NJ. A good friend of mine lives there and he told me he envies our freedom.

Everything's relative. Stop whining and get to work!

Would love to see Pink Pistols of Maryland (if this regional group exists) respond to his feed that a common sense, first step would be considering self-defense to fulfill the G&S standard for concealed carry.

According to their main website no such branch exists in Maryland. Maybe some of our members with connections among the community will help fix that. I'd donate to their local chapter if they open one.

I have been waiting for several of my customers to come into the bar and be able to discuss this past weekend with them. One owns 2 gay bars in DC.

I just watched a report on WBAL TV news that said that Hogan came out today and said that he was NOT going to vote for Trump. He would not vote for Trump even if Christie (his friend) was on the ticket.

    Shocking!

He didn't need to say that.

He could have simply said "I am voting for the candidate that is aligned with my issues and I am waiting to see more of Mr. Trump's proposals".

I must say, it does change the outlook for our future in Maryland. If Trump becomes president, I can see him being very vindictive towards Maryland. I wonder why Hogan had to come out publicly with this announcement? Makes no sense to me. Just keep your thoughts on this matter to yourself.

Hogan, if your people are listening, I think you lost a number of supporters across the state today.

    Very disappointed.
