Doug - I couldn't agree more. Please put pressure on the ACLU to take a position on this legislation today. The Speaker of the House is pushing to get this legislation out despite all members of the Judiciary Committee not supporting the bill. If the ACLU is against it and makes it known, then it might help keep the legislation from coming out.
But it needs to be today or tomorrow, because the train is already moving.
Thanks
Sincerely,
Deb
EL...
I'm not in a position to do it now, but I'd think Hogan could be wrapped in on this too!
I receive many auto replies. I also got one that is lighting a fire under me, from Delegate Deborah Rey, below.
I sent an email to the ACLU and followed it up with phone call to bring it to their attention. They are only in the office Tues. and Thur. from 1-3pm.
I'm nervous.
Doug - I reviewed the testimony from the hearing on the bill and the ACLU did take apposition. They opposed the bill.
Sincerely
Deb

Wait, the ACLU opposed this bill? really??
They're afraid that when an conservative-dominant Congress convenes, that this bill's attempt to nullify the 5th Amendment and Due Process will be used as a hammer to drive the final nails into their liberal/progressive coffin.
This bill received a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on February 26th and there has been no further action. This bill will not move forward.
All right folks, time for a good old fashioned fire mission.
We have it on good authority that the Mike and Mike show are trying to push this bill.
SO, we need everyone to hammer every Democrat we know on both committees to request an unfavorable vote on this bill. No need to hit our friends, the Republican, they are on board, but if it has a (D) beside its name, hit it.
No idea on how soon this will get pushed but if we push first, hard, fast, and wide, then perhaps we can prevent this from getting out of committee.
Hammer them on;
No due process
No redress process
Mistaken identities common
And anything and everything else you can come up with.
Response from Delegate Curt Anderson:
I guess Mike & Mike haven't put the touch on him yet.
The Maryland firearms community is well aware of the pressure being brought to bear by Miller & Busch to rekindle these bills.
All we are asking is to oppose what is, on its face, a blatant emotional/political/convenience play to further the Curran agenda.
If the Delegate is truly unaware of this, then we have bigger issues.
And these Senators are supposed to be JUDICIARY experts? As in the LAW? As in the CONSTITUTION?
Have any of them even articulated a response to the Due Process concerns, or is it just a vague notion of "balance," or even worse, is it just "crickets"?
This flagrant disregard for American citizens' Due Process rights ought to be reason enough to remove from office anyone voting in favor of this bill. It conclusively establishes that their party politics, and desire for personal political power outweighs both the Due Process clause of the US Constitution and common sense. It flies in the face of ALL available evidence.

Who doesn't think the Terror Watch List Bill passes now..
Yesterday, the leadership of the General Assembly has stated that HB1000 and SB1040 must be passed, despite all of their problems. Clearly this move was a knee-jerk reaction in the wake of the Brussels bombings, one that would have not done anything to prevent those bombings should they have happened in Maryland.
These bills should be eliminated from the slate for their obvious flaws:
They offer NO Due Process protections guaranteed by the US Constitution.
They offer NO redress procedures for those incorrectly listed on the Terrorist Watch list.
They rely on a list that that is unavailable to State Police.
I vehemently oppose these unconstitutional restrictions on my rights guaranteed by the US Constitution; so do the citizens of Maryland.
In answer to these bills, it should be noted that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has offered testimony during the hearing opposing this bill.
Given the numerous reasons to drop these terrible bills from consideration, it is not clear why they should be forced to proceed at this time, if ever. I suspect that the motivation has little to do with actually providing for the safety of Maryland citizens (since the bills are basically impossible to enforce), and more to do with scoring empty political points by co-opting the tragedy in Brussels.
You all are better than this, so please act like it.
