Here's something to think about:
In this scenario, can YOU repair your sidearm of choice in the event that something breaks / wears out?

Why?
This is a BATTLE pistol, not a SHTF pistol.
Can the average sodlier repair their pistol or carbine?
And would you have time to do so in the middle of a BATTLE?
OK, to me a Red Dawn scenario is more of a SHTF type thing. And that has been discussed a LOT on MDS.
Although, a Red Dawn is not quite the same, as there is still infrastructure, and you could possibly get parts or replacement firearms. As only a few are involved in employing them against the invaders. Versus the SHTF, where civilization has collapsed type of scenario.
The choice of a battle pistol (combat troop with support) is a new topic.
This entire thread has been confusing. Who cares about exactly your sidearm is? There's like a million pistols out there that are durable, reliable, and shoot straight. If you're transitioning to your sidearm as your "battle weapon", things have gone to hell and you need to GTFO of there.I was absolutely thinking what would be in a holster on my plate carrier over in Iraq during battle in a war.

If you could have your choice of battle sidearm, what would it be?
I'm more interested in everyone's take on make and model here as opposed to caliber.
Pros and cons?
I haven't got to handle any of the Euro pistols much, such as the HK's, Sigs, and CZ's, just Glocks and the American mainstays so far. I know it's an outdated platform, but so far at least, nothing has been able to top the way a 1911 feels in my hand and points for me.
What say you all?
Dammit...
I don't understand the confusion.
The question was simple. What pistol would you like on your side if you had to go to war against the Russian or UN "peacekeeping" forces dropping out of the sky?
If God forbid anything comes to that, I for one will not be without a sidearm.
LEO's have had training with handguns. So have soldiers. They were the ones I was really looking for responses from, you know, someone who may have actually been in hostile territory at some point or another and may have had to fight with their pistol.
For example, a Vietnam vet that was issued a 1911A1, or a Desert Storm vet that was issued an M9 hypothetically gets discharged and comes home, and winds up getting exposed to other makes and models of pistols. Maybe one of them were to pick up a Glock or a Sig 226, shoot it, and say to themselves "I wish I were issued one of these back in the jungle or the sandbox". And should they ever wind up having to defend the home soil with the rest of us, what would they wanna carry? Their issued weapon? Or their new Sig or Glock they bought after coming home?
No. Anyone was welcome to weigh in. I just thought LEO's and vets would have been able to provide a unique perspective. You first asked opinions of everyone, per the bolded first quote, now you're saying you just wanted operators to answer???
One of my best friends is SF. In Iraq and Afghanistan he carried a Kimber 1911. Of course, he also carried a FAL instead of an AR based rifle.

How many battles are typical LEOs on???????????
