    Get a VZ24. Or even an M48

    Those are good Mausers.

Don't sink back into the swamp of cheap Mosins!

Now that I have a M48A and a 24/47 I wouldn't put either in the class of a Vz. 24. Not that the Yugos are crap, but it reminds me very similarly of the difference between my Yugo Tok's vs my Polish Tok's.

One's a workhorse, tough and does the job, the other is just NICE in every aspect.

Edit: And my shooter Mosin 91/30 will easily outshoot both Yugo Mausers with authority. See Range Pics thread.

Eh, I ordered a M28 a little while ago. Not cheap. The T53 would be for blasting paper or fruit. Not really interested in going to 8mm. I like keeping to 7.62 and 54r.

That is a good point. Curse that ammo incompatibility!

Of course, if you expand to .30-06, it opens up a whole new, big beautiful world for you.

Not only Garands (which admittedly can be had in 7.62 NATO), but 03 Springfields, 17 Enfields, 03-A3s, FN49s (Luxembourg), Venezuelan and Norwegian Mausers, perhaps a BAR...

I am kinda stuck with .308/7.62/54r until the kids get out of daycare or move out. Eventually I want a 6.5 M96.

I was not happy with the 1916s performance. I am cleaning all the crud off the action/barrel. There is a crack in the stock I didn't see on the outside. I can see on the stock where it looks like there is the barrel rubbing the stock, so I may shim and then sand a bit of the stock in the barrel channel. Maybe check the crown.

Well then you need an israeli mauser.

Nice mauser and 308. All your problems can be solved by buying the right C&R.

I thought about that, but my impression is that most are beaters. Maybe not.

In any case, I think Israeli Mausers are pretty cool. The Israeli connection makes them especially interesting. Some were purchased from FN, but others were rebarreled from WWII surplus K98ks, which makes them particularly interesting.

Expensive now too. There is a decent FN up on GB now, not special, already at $472 with a couple days to go.
