Wow. I have never been asked those types of questions and I just switched doctors last month. (My last doctor retired)
Was it L. Silverberg? My Doc retired too, even though he said he NEVER would. I visited him at home one day and we chatted and he said the paperwork became too burdensome and he was losing patients who had to switch providers no longer in his program. He seemed very melancholy as all he wanted to do was care for his patients...

I had to transfer to a new PCP due to changing insurance recently, and when doing so my new physician explicitly told me to leave blank anything that I felt was iffy, and outright told me there would be questions that would invade my privacy.

I asked her why are they even asking the questions, and she said she doesn't make the rules, but strongly urged me not to answer anything even remotely iffy. When asked why, she said there could be, and I quote, 'repercussions'

So which prescription drugs don't mix well with firearms?
Reading through the thousands of possible side effects, I'd say many of them.
So now what - you can't get the prescription filled unless you put the guns in the safe possession of someone else?
    Maybe.

Could there be something buried in the 2,800 pages of ObamaCare, or is it the additional 'interpreted regulations' imposed by HHS that physicians 'MUST' ask these questions as a 'condition' of payment by 'the system' ?

AFA the smoke detector, that was a warm-up or a gauging question ... like what you get from a sales person to put you in an 'agreeing' state of mind to help close the deal. It's was innocent enough ... home safety . Do you have handrails ? How about a fence around your pool ? hmmmm, those along with smoke detectors are building code safety issues, and NOT health related.

Teratos might know whether there has been some sort of AMA edict distributed recently. This sounds like their modus operandi ... with a little 'urging' from Kathleen Sibelius.

Nothing I have seen from the AMA about this recently. They DO recommend that we ask these questons. It is just a recommendation. Some people do take what the AMA says to heart.

Why let this kind of dumb stuff get in the way of getting good healthcare? Just say no, and move along. It is of no consequence.

This happened when my wife and I went to her first obgyn appointment after we found out she was pregnant. We both left there livid, after telling them that it had nothing whatsoever to do with the health of my wife or child.

My wife's words? "What in the hell does that have to do with my vagina?!"

I'd marry her a second time if I could. :)

    Just read this thread, wow.

I found out last week that my doc made good on what he told me 2 years ago when he said, "If Obamacare gets implemented, I'm going to retire". Well, he did exactly that.

Then, today, I get "the letter" from Carefirst BC/BS. My health insurance is being cancelled and that we have to "purchase a new ACA-compliant plan in 2014."

I'm a small business owner, so I half-expected this to happen. I guess my family are just a few of the 80 million Americans expected to lose their insurance over the next few months.... :mad54:

Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement that these questions are being asked, but Napolitano made an important observation.

"Most people will think they have to answer. They don't need to answer under the law," he explained.

If I have to put an answer to the gun question in my patient's charts, the government will be amazed at the lack of gun ownership among my patient population. I will do what I have been telling everyone to do when confronted with this question.

    "Just say no".

Be careful with your Electronic Health Records data. These databases repopulate your information throughout the health system and once the data point is entered it will live on. Can't really be expunged in a meaningful way.

Just one digit misrepresented can brand a patient with a diagnosis that is incorrect at a minimum and could be really harmful or damaging at some future time.

I personally plan to stay with paper as long as I can. I take the yearly increasing hit on payments and will continue to do so until they wont pay at all with paper then I may just stop altogether (more range time for me i guess).

I prefer giving my patients the security of having their record sequestered and cordoned off in my chart rack, even if my patients don't know or appreciate the value of that. I was taught many years a go to "First, do no harm". I intend to abide by that dictum.

    That is beautiful! :party29:

I'm pretty sure if my doc asked me any questions to firearms I would without hesitation tell her NO.

I think the proper thing to do is to lie and screw up the database. I guess someone is trying to track some 280 million firearms?
