My latest project refinish a CZ-82 (Cold Blue) and replaced the grips with some wood from Grips4U. Took the CZ all the way down and did a good cleaning. Use paint stripper and 0000 steel wool to remove the old baked on paint. I ordered the grips on Friday had them in my mailbox on Monday great service. Putting the CZ-82 together was one of the hardest things I have ever done, it took me 5 hours to get it together after a few mistakes. The only issue I had was the slide stop spring, lost it a couple times end up ordering a new one after I discovered the old one was broken (too short). I think it was worth the effort. Not bad for a $280 C&R Pistol.

If you need a Slide Stop Spring this guy Norm has them at a good price. http://olderthendirt.proboards.com/thread/313/trigger-return-slide-stop-springs?page=2

After looking at the finished product I ordered another CZ-82 just not sure I will take this one down all the way, think I learned my lesson.

Nice cold blue. Which one did you use?

Klean-Strip paint stripper to remove the old finish, mineral spirits to clean and remove the stripper, Alcohol and Dawn dish soap to clean before applying Birchwood Casey Super Blue 0000 steel wool between coats applied 3 coats.

Put all the part in a ziplock bag and covered them in CLP for 24 hours after the last blue coat.

As a purist i pause before i say this, but that looks great! CZ-82's have the worst stock finish. I dont know what they were thinking when they used that enamel/paint. Given the amount of 82's out there, I think it looks great.

I LIKE that. I am very hesitant to mess with the finish on mine, but I really like the way that turned out. The one I just got the finish is all flaked off from where they engraved the inporters marks and it looks like crap.

It looked pretty good to start with as well. I've seen them worse than that. Still, the new finish takes it to another level.

Great minds think alike...
Your process was almost identical to what I did a few months back. Other than you using CLP and me using Kroil, our processes were totally matching.
Good job!

PS- I agree with an earlier post about being a purist and all the Bubba stuff. My solution was to buy two more and leave them original!

I'm new to collecting C&R handguns but have been in the collecting/restoring of classic cars for about 30 years. The need to keep something as original as possible generally applies when the number of available objects has decreased over the years. in a short time, it seems to me that there are an incredible number of CZ-82 in circulation.I am planning on driving north to visit with Bollinger Gunsmithing next week and bring him 3 of my guns for cerakote and refurbishment. This will probably double the cost I paid for each. With small hope to recoup that cost, if I decided to sell one. BUT heck, the oows and ahhs from the range will be enough. Now before everyone thinks I've lost my mind...I do have one that I will leave unmolested :) I'm not dumb, just broke!!

I seen some of Bollingers cerakote work and they do a beautiful job that and the tear down and reassembly of a CZ-82 is not very easy. Two reasons I choose the DIY and cold blue over the cerakote was I have a lot of time on my hands and very little money to work with. Had to save my pennies to get the Grips. The CZ-82 I picked to do this project was pretty worn and had a lot of outer finish issues. I like the look of wood and left my Mosins for the most part in original condition.

Hey Bob, You know I only JUST sent the vending machine out to my son on Monday. :) Now let me say, I think you did a beautiful job and you may be getting a PM from me on an estimate to reblue one of mine. Come on, I know you have the time and should be getting good at break down and reassembly. Anyways, part of my desire is to have a competent gunsmith inspect and repair what parts are bad. I'm keeping these babies until I'm gone

Your right I have time on my hands but I'm far from a Gunsmith. Just a guy with hobbies that cost money and a empty wallet.

I seen a few spring kit to replace worn out part or piece cost isn't bad finding them can be. Work like a trigger job should be done by a gunsmith. For the most part the extractor and or springs (there are many) are the only parts I would replace if their worn.
