Someone had a bad day at the range

Found these while sorting my bag o' brass harvested from the range floor the other day.

They're not mine as I was shooting .45 and .223 but, out of curiosity, what would cause that? It's Blazer brass. I have no idea if it was factory ammo or reloads.

Like inserting a mag of 9mm into you .40.

They would have fallen down the barrel when cycled.

Held one of them end-to-end against an empty 40 casing and they're pretty close in size but I don't have a 40 to see if a 9mm round will sit in the chamber or fall down the barrel.

Good excuse to go buy one?
