Seems to me to be a lot of complacency about the gun laws being discussed in Congress this week. Seems like everyone is absorbed on the State level.

You know, the Federal laws may turn out to be far stricter than what has occurred in MD and elsewhere, so wakeup out there. To me, it looks like most are taking the wait and see approach, which is never good. Proactive is better, indeed!:sad20:

I'd put the odds of anything getting through the Senate as near zero; through Senate and House both as less than that.

    And I am seriously paranoid.

I've been emailing my US reps periodically since it became an issue again. They're all drinking the anti-rights Kool-Aid but I'll keep emailing them from time to time.

Luckily, their stupidity is canceled out by intelligence from other states and I'm not worried.

Feds seem to be mainly focusing on universal background checks.

... if it can be done without a registry/database I'm for that.
But, they seem to be too stupid to figure out a way to do that -- or, to even add a requirement that whatever they implement must not have a registry.

We have at least 14 Senators saying they will filibuster such measures. Not to mention How hard the NRA (among others) is pushing against this at the national level.

Nobody has forgotten about the Federal attempts at gun control. But right not the focus should be on the states (rightfully so) which are much more at risk.

NY, CO, CT, MD, DE, NJ, MA, RI, CA, NH, ME, IL all have had new gun legislation pass or are at rick of such legislation passing at this time.

Let Harry Reid whine and try to blame Repubs. He's just trying to demonize them for 2014 elections. Red states don't care and rural blue states are probably not in play either. Not gonna fly. Even UBC are in doubt.

Where do I sign up to testify on how the features on modern sporting rifles make them safer and handicap adaptable like I did in Annapolis. We are the only state that got features excluded.

But, they seem to be too stupid to figure out a way to do that -- or, to even add a requirement that whatever they implement must not have a registry.

That's a distraction. The real issues is transfers. The proposed UBC law by the Democratic senators redefines the meaning of transfer to a very narrow range. Outside of that range, you're a felon. Things like taking a friend shooting on your property and you hand them a rifle. That's now a transfer and requires a background check. Move in with your girlfriend/boyfriend with your gun and you leave the house on a business trip for a week. If they touch your gun, that's now a transfer and requires a background check. Loan a friend a firearm to go hunting or target shooting with. That's now a transfer and requires a background check.

Violating all of that is now a felony. They are hiding this under the "common sense" rubric of "everyone supports universal background checks" without telling people they are redefining the meaning of transfer to make a background check cover activities that have never been questioned as unreasonable or dangerous.

And most people don't realize it. The goal is to insidiously make gun ownership so dangerous and fraught with peril to destroy the gun culture. If such a thing happens, the news won't report an honest mistake of a friend loaning a friend a rifle. It will be termed someone let a dangerous "assault weapon" into the hands of someone without a background check and who knows what chaos could have resulting with an untracked weapon!

The registry stuff is to track the transfers. So we know who got what and when. They have that now with 4473s, just not ALL of them. They want all firearms on the grid eventually. They may even drop the registry as a sop to gun rights people since I believe the destruction of gun culture through discouraging ownership and sharing of the culture is the ultimate goal. Destroy that common ground of gun owners and you destroy their ability to fight back.

This isn't about guns anymore and never has been. This is about destroying and marginalizing a group they don't like. I find it funny that if you substituted other terms for "gun owner" in some of this rhetoric, the bigotry and hatred would be clear as day.

To quote a blogger I've read for years: "We're all gun n!ggers". No offense is intended but if you see how those who hate guns and hate us, we have been and are the target of this new generation of "Jim Crow" laws to put us down and keep us there.

It's all over the news that it ain't gonna be much, if anything, that they get. I'm sure most folks are watching closely.

Matt is right on target. Chuckie Schumer is dancing in anticipation that enough RINOs block a fillibuster. Then 51 votes send it to the House......and the Media kicks it up several notches and pulls out all the stops in an attempt to get this abomination passed. Universal Background checks my a$$. Major smoke and mirrors going on right before our eyes.

most of what has failed to succeed on the nationalnlevel is because the media doesn't have an enemy other than the nra and its members and supporters, and the media has failed in attacking and demonizing us.

once the hold up is " republicans in the house" that media attack will ratchet up.

    Yes, we are concerned.

Everyone, tune into Mark Levin and listen to him grill Congress.

Oh wait, Maryland is filled with girly men ...

    Still, tune in ...
